It means that character comes from pre-ARR Times. Its the mark they survived dalamuds fall, a legacy character![]()
It looks cool but perhaps tilt with a smile towards the audience. That said 574 comms is pretty good so maybe it doesn't matter.Good feedback everyone.
I like to think i have played long enough to know dungeons by heart so not normally an issue there, I try to help players, Always Dance partner and use Shield Samba where appropriate etc.
I was a Trade Mentor for a long time But have wanted to up to combat mentor lol.
I have managed to get to 574 comms total as Dancer, a chunk of those came from leveling healers or tanks though (But still most from DNC over a long period of time)
My Portrait game probably could be better but i like it lol.
If nothing happend i noticed that deserve a commendation i usualy default to the "Pretty portrait" thing.
If a person was nice and added to the Content by just being social that can get a commendation.
If i noticed outstanding things in gameplay i also commendate that but that rarely falls onto DPS exception might be run saver like Red Mage.
If someone is rather unpleasant or even toxic in the social sense i wouldnt give commendation even if it other things apply. Its a KO Criterium.
Play a cute girl character.
I'm not even joking.
I play exactly the same on my miqo'te boy and my au ra girl alt, and she gets commendations way more often.
Now I do agree that my au ra is adorable, but damn, c'mon, I like my catboy too!
I started playing this game on the same day my husband started playing it. He made a miqo'te girl and I made a miqo'te boy (we didn't plan this at all, that's just what we came out of the character creator with and went "cool, let's go") and despite playing together for almost the same amount of time, he has at least twice as many commendations on his miqo'te girl than I have on my boy. The comms rarely have much to do with gameplay.
I'll be carrying the entire run on my back as rdm as I verraise until my mana is dry and ethers popped left and right and get 0 comms.
The commendation system does not work as intended, but it doesn't really need fixing because if you really want that mentor roulette, you should probably be ready for a long grind anyway. Play tank or healer. That's free comms no matter how badly you do![]()
I get comms as a DPS and I give comms to other DPS very often, especially those playing less popular jobs that did well.
That said when I first started I spammed it on tanks and healers. I imagine more inexperienced or casual people do this.
As many have said it also helps when you are a team player basically and have a sense of humor as necessary.

If I’m DPS I usually comm the other DPS as long as they do the bare minimum.
If I’m Healing or Tanking I give it to Heal/Tank depending on the content, like when I have a co-healer/tank or not. And same rules do the bare minimum comm for you.
And sometimes the comm just goes to the talkative funny person in the party cuz they made the run fun. Helpful people sometimes get the comm too.
Also I usually main RDM, so pretty use to not getting comms when I think I should get at least one for scraping healers and party off the ground more than once lol. It is what it is at this point.
Here's the problem.
The only way the DPS gets a comm, is if the tank and healer leave.
How much time is spent thinking about the comm? ARR content, probably zero, whoever hasn't rushed to the exit, if anyone bothered to comm at all. If you want a comm even if you probably don't deserve it, be the last one out.
Overall, as the healer, I am mentally keeping track "how hard" each player is to keep alive, and if a certain DPS is constantly dying they are making the overall duty take longer. If a Healer dies, the overall duty takes at most a few seconds longer. If a DPS dies the duty can take 20% longer, which is why it's important to keep them alive. However even if a healer takes a dirt nap, bringing them back up by the other healer in an 8-man/24-man is still important to keeping the party alive.
If DPS die to mechanics, kiss the comms goodbye. In general though, the reason DPS do not get comms is simply because players just run to the exit.
It is also partly because you can't tell if a dps is doing a good job doing damage since it's impossible for a dps to rip aggro from a tank unless the tank is just AFK.Here's the problem.

A healer will still get comms, even if they're asleep at their keyboard causing people to get killed because they're not paying attention, meanwhile a DPS doing the damage of all 3 other party members combined (Because everyone else sucks) won't get noticed unless someone is running a parser.
As for tanking, well, all you need to do is just have stance on and pull mobs, tanking isn't exactly complicated nowadays
Watching forum drama be like
Yeah i noticed people leave content insanely fast so often i want to commendate but well..people are gone.
