Directional Disregard everywhere = no more positionals?

I’m a returning player who last played during post MSQ ShB.

I’m a little confused if positionals are still a thing with the introduction of the Directional Disregard target ring in patch 7.01.

I get that DD negates positional requirements, but it seems that almost all large mobs like dungeon/raid bosses all have DD. So basically I hardly ever have to worry about melee DPS positionals anymore? Except for maybe stray trash mobs after you AoE down the pack?

doesnt rly matter honestly since many of the positionals got killed anyway and for the 2 or 3 you have, you can use true north. At least thats my feeling while playing meeles rn

as far as i'm aware this buff is only used in one raid fight (added in 7.01), what do you mean by "it seems that almost all large mobs like dungeon/raid bosses all have DD"?

This is only used in one fight at the very end so it's hardly common, for now.

Oh, I must be mistaken then. I just play casual content like dungeons, 24 man raids, normal 4 man raids. I thought all the targeting rings on those bosses looked like Directional Disregard and it doesn’t seem like other melee are really doing their positionals.

It's just a new thing added in this patch. It's used by one of the new normal raid bosses when its HP is very low.

Otherwise bosses still have the normal targeting circle or the omnidirectional one for wall bosses or Eureka/PotD mobs.

Yeah, I realized my misunderstanding now. The regular targeting circle has the front arrow outside the circle, whereas the Directional Disregard circle has the front arrow inside the circle. I haven't played for a long time, so I missed the distinction. Thanks for your help!

(Old) If the circle has a gap in the rear and the arrow sticking out the front, the target requires you to hit positionals.

(Old) If the circle has no gaps and the arrow is inside, and the ring spinning around it is just a thin line, the target ignores positionals.

(New: Directional Disregard) If the circle has no gaps and the arrow is inside, and the ring around it is made of bars, the target usually requires positionals but is ignoring them right now.

The difference between the old no-positionals circle and the new Directional Disregard circle is that the new circle represents a temporary state.
