[rant]The interphos, Absolute authority and the average player

I farming that trial for the TT card, and I want to die (actually I nearly always do). Because the average player is not good enough to resolve that mechanic.

    - You go not too far with the "less damage with distance marker", so someone can close the gap, and but no most of the time, people run the other way to be "with the group", even when you're closer.
    - When you have the chance to have someone that knows and don't die there (and that's rare) , you sheathe your weapon with the dice, don't look at the eye, and end being killed by the auto damages.

The mechanic is really cool, but it's too much for the average player. And I'm not even that good. I mean, it's been 1 month and a half, and most people still can't solve it. If anything, I feel the more it goes, the more wrose it get. At least there is the LB3... when the heal use it.

I don't think it should change, because on paper it's good, but I need to vent, this is by far the most frustrating normal trial mechanic in the game. It is the videogame illustration of "Hell is other people".

As a healer if I see people being stupid about it I'll hit my party mit and top people off, if I were a tank I'd say "well you lot clearly can't be trusted with mechanics, I'ma LB3 for you", if you're going as dps then... Yeah, my condolences.

I remember seeing someone say that surviving Absolute Authority gives you a free LB3 to use, is that not the case? If so, one healer surviving it is all it takes.

I think it's just the normal LB that's full by that moment. Free LB comes with the cinematic a little later.

    [edit]
No, you're right, I just rechecked, it also gives a free LB 3 after Absolute Authority.

I know there is a full LB3 around that mechanic, I'll pay more attention next time to when it actually comes up,

Just pop tank LB3, ignore mechanics. It's that simple. If your group can't do the mechanics, push the big "I'm not dealing with this" button.

Give it time. Content is new. In a few weeks, people will be doing that trial with their eyes closed.

    Also, pop sprint.

Can you clarify whether your groups are never clearing this mechanic, or whether they're wiping a few times before they clear it?

Because if your groups literally can't ever beat the mechanic, then yeah, that's a problem.

But wiping a few times before clearing is the ideal experience. It means people are being challenged, but at a level that the overall group is able to overcome.

No, I rarely had a wipe but when you're done this shit at least 40 time over the past month(I lost the count, I'm at 9 since the restart this tuesday), you know how to resolve the mechanic, but that 90% of the time, you still die because of circumstance (even if rezzed after), it stops being fun, it's just frustrating. What's the point of making such mechanics if you offer a free LB3 because you know most player won't resolve it. This whole thing makes no sense,

I've heard people posit that the point is to give players an intense experience that feels clutch, and that sounds about right to me. And personally, I think it's an interesting way to make design a mechanic: if someone who can rez survives, the group beat the mechanic. (And I wouldn't be surprised if there's some smoke-and-mirrors happening in the background that nudges things towards that outcome...)

I wouldn't want every single mechanic to be designed like this, but I think it's a nice bit of variety that has a fun vibe.
