Don't expect a new MMO until they're finished milking this one

Desired changes? Player dissatisfaction? Unless the stats SE get show that and they address it somehow, I don't think we're anywhere there yet

I don't think they need to shut down FFXIV to work on a new MMO. After all, FFXI is still around.

I do think that DT has clearly shown that if not the engine then at least the code is too much of a mess to expect any real big changes or innovations to the game in the future. We hear that excuse constantly, like when talking about a proper wardrobe system. So if not a completely new MMO then they should at least make it a priority to finally get their spaghetti code fixed. Because it's really holding the game back and we can't go on for another decade like this.

Sorry no credits for a person from 2024, that has barely touched the game at all.
If you mean me, i occasionally visited the forum in the past but never felt the need to make a extra Forum account for that. Im not a new player i have over 4000 hours in this game @.@

Sooner or later square enix needs to grant them the people and funds to update the engine.

One thing I wish they would do is bring dragon quest 10 to the west instead of jumping through hoops to play it.

Hold my beer then... hmm I don't think you would be able to hold my beer to be honest the tankard is to heavy.... almost 26000 hours and still going and then there is all the time when Steam for some odd reason could not count the time.

Well 1.x was shut down to revamp it into 2.0 so i would say they would need to shut down ffxiv to fedo the engine. If not a total shutdown a complete content stop till new engine game is ready. You can be sure most players will have moved on if they do.

All of that actually makes perfect sense to me. The monthly fee is what keeps the servers running, community managers to sort out complaints, etc.. Paying for the expansion itself pays for all of the people you see in the credits who actually made the new content for the expansion (and not just the .0 MSQ, but the new raid series, patch content, etc.). Separating the two payments also attracts the audience who aren't really interested in a long-term commitment, but are willing to buy the expansion and pay a single 1-month sub to play through what they're treating as a stand-alone game. If you do all the .0 content (including watching all the cutscenes, doing all the side quests, etc....basically everything available at launch), it usually runs an easy 50-60 hours of playtime. Dropping ~$55 for the expansion + one-month sub feels fair to me for a stand-alone game of that length.

Also the cash shop in FFXIV is cosmetic. I couldn't care less what gets thrown into a cosmetic cash shop. The extra cost for the retainer is the only thing I object to.

I don't mind subscription if at least 60% of the money is going to the game

But the current state isn't even close to 10%
It's true a fair amount of FFXIV income gets diverted to other games, but ridiculous hyperbole just kills credibility and makes one come off sounding immature.

Maybe because the Negativity Bias of the Forum....and the repeating threads about more or less the same topics.
    Im not sure.
This. Echo chambers can have a real psychological effect on people. Someone will see a thread on here saying Living Memory was horrible and getting 50 or so upvotes and think "see, this is what everyone says" while ignoring the YT video where people saying Living Memory was a positive experience and meaningful to them will get close to a 1000 upvotes. But if you limit your experience only to places where everyone agrees with you, you risk completely missing the real picture.

I can't take brand new accounts serious for statign this, unless they somehow got removed by doign malicious content themself on some other account or the likes.

Just a heads up that the "Join Date" on the forums is not necessarily when the person started playing, but when they actually made an official forum account. For example, my Join Date shows as sometime in 2022 I believe, but I've been playing on this account since 2015.

I wonder if something happened in June 2024 to make people so upset they had to create an account on the forums to leave dissatisfied feedback.

People don't know how to make modern MMOs anymore.

Today's juggernaut MMOs were built on slow-burn progression. Lots of content compared to other multiplayer games, decently large persistent worlds. Content you can deeply engage in outside of the main progression loop. Stories and lore you can get lost in. Characters and places you can truly make your own.

This is the type of game that the current 'old guard' enjoys, and thus it is the game that they play.

Most modern MMOs that come out are "HARDCORE PVP PERMADEATH BALLCRUSHER", "LIMITED RESOURCES AND NFTS", "WE TOOK ARK'S GAMEPLAY AND TRIED TO GIVE IT BETTER NETCODE (WE FAILED)", "BETTER NOT LOG OUT FOR 5 HOURS OR SOME DUDE WITH NOTHING BETTER TO DO WILL TRANSMOGRIFY YOUR BASE INTO THE SHAPE OF A PHALLUS".

And they wonder why nobody wants to play them.

I'll be honest, I don't trust people to make decent MMOs anymore. If I had the money and means, I would try. But I guess people with the money and means are smart enough not to make MMOs anymore.

This is the most false statement I've ever heard?

This is more true of MMOs from like 2001 than it is today. Since WoW, including XIV, it's been almost nothing but "persistent" "worlds" with "progression". It's a genre of raid sims with the aesthetics of the rest.

I'm also not even sure what games you're referencing to be honest.

It's hard to make a quality MMO today for a lot of reasons, but a big one is that most people don't actually want to play an MMO. They want to play instant gratification Monster Hunter with a chatroom and orange aoe circles.
