But when it boils down to the main looping rotation, what used to be the standard Samurai GCD of 2.15 now requires a hint of freestyling to be optimal.
For context, before the changes, Samurai at a 2.15 GCD required 2 filler GCDs. In an optimal setting with full uptime, that would be using Hagakure on a Yukikaze sen. With the 7.05 changes to Tsubame-gaeshi, your filler GCDs are essentially being replaced by the extra Midares you get. The problem, however, is that you get one extra Midare before your one-minute mark and then two extra Midares in your odd minute before your reopener, which results in one extra filler GCD, potentially causing some drifting for a 2.15 GCD.
A 2.08-2.06 GCD is probably going to be the new standard for a rotation that loops. That skill speed range requires 3 fillers, which is perfect for the changes that were implemented since those 3 fillers are now going to be Midares. However, in order to achieve a 2.08 skill speed, you will be missing out on a lot of crit/det/dh substats, which are certainly more preferred. This is an unfortunate issue because you would now need to have two sets for Monk and Samurai if you want Samurai to have mechanically the same rotation as it did pre-7.05. (This makes me think of the caster situation in Shadowbringers and Endwalker, where Black Mage had spell speed sets and crit sets.)
All of this being said, I think simply making Fuka reduce weaponskill cast times would amend the sadness Samurai brings me in its current state. I also wouldn't be shocked if the job team is thinking about reworking Samurai at this point. In any case, I wonder what other people think about the Samurai changes—if they like them, hate them, don't understand why it got changed, etc. Let me know your thoughts.
