    Tanks holding fights hostage in Roulettes




    i genuinely almost never post here but its been a more common occurrence i've noticed this expansion specifically where tanks, knowing they can just out sustain a boss, will refuse to reset a fight and instead force players to sit there and wait for them to whittle a boss down. I decided to take my WHM into trial roulette for my daily and got Valigarmanda normal. There seemed to a be a couple of newer players and they were having issue with the add phase/stack marker mechanic and we ended up dying due to not having enough bodies to survive the stacks (except the tanks) so i was trying to explain to them the easiest way to handle it. Instead, the tanks only on the 2nd or 3rd pull decided to just keep going and make us sit and watch and the encounter ended up taking almost 30 minutes. I thought the healer strike thing was silly at first tbh, but i've noticed this happening more and more often and i'm at the point now i will just not be taking healers in duties anymore, ya'll can suffer.

    What was the % of the boss when it happened? If the party isn't improving with the mechanic people can also get a bit annoyed, and start trying too much.

    he had enough health for it to take almost 20 minutes from *that pull alone* because it was just the two tanks. most of us were dead after adds phase (new ppl panicking with the stack marker). i'm VERY patient and i want people to learn how to do mechanics, but thats not possible when Warrior just decides to bloodwhetting for 30 minutes

    Yeah, this sorta thing sucks. The only good purpose for prolonging a fight like this is to show mechanics off to the group (I've been in a couple of groups where tanks did this and it helped).

    But yeah, there should be a rage timer or a "super tank buster" added to these fights, to keep this from happening.

    Had that happen during Asura fight when it came out.

    Welcome to FFXIV where tanks are unkillable and can grief the entire party by wasting everybody's time.

    As much as this sucks, the tank really isn't doing anything wrong I feel.

    It's more of an unwritten rule/courtesy thing.

    If Squeenix cared they would just add enrage timers to prevent this.

    EDIT: When I say "isin't doing anything wrong" I mean not breaking the game's rules to warrant a report or ban.

    Obviously forcing your party to watch you flex and have your 'superman solo boss' moment is cringe.

    i think if theyre making a pull last over 20 minutes, that constitutes holding players hostage in a fight which is against ToS, but i do think SE could do something about this i agree. I could somewhat understand if it was multiple wipes but they barely let the new players even do the mechanics to learn.

    I do it all the time. We have some pretty decent self sustain but it is not some crazy thing. The guy here was probably geared with the latest stuff. It makes us look invincible lol

    We still die I promise you.

    Not dying to mechanics and doing the properly to avoid damage is considered hostaging now? Interesting.
