I do play all ranged physical and have raided with MCH and BRD for all expansions since SB, use my own main character on these forums, and I do mostly agree with the OP. The job is badly designed, does garbage damage in spite of everything, and doesn't fit its own niche.
There is also definitely personal bias in wanting BRD to have more firepower, but that perception is also colored by its PVP version which has walking casts. If walking casts get translated over to PVE than it means that BRD, and MCH should have much higher personal damage.
if its barse then meh. But prog wth MCH is good classe to prog with tools they have.
Plenty of Machinist's are clearing the raid tier.
The job is not so bad that it can't clear.
Indeed, but MCH low rdps means you contribute less than another job at equal skill and make the fight harder for your group. While I can understand some people are not confident enough to bring a MCH in their group, it's really frustrating to see groups who lock out MCH when the only real reason is poor balancing from SE.
MCH is an ADPS job though, it's personal DPS should be higher than BRD and DNC (which it is).Indeed, but MCH low rdps means you contribute less than another job at equal skill and make the fight harder for your group. As a machinist main, I hope they do - In fact I hope they lock out all Phys Ranged. It's at some point will get to the fact that the measly 1% us phys ranged poop out for existing wont be worth it and its better to bring another picto or rez caster. either give the phys ranged role more damage or make it an actual support role, currently its stuck in purgatory of neither in comparison to other jobs (the major outlier here is picto - yoship's new love).Indeed, but MCH low rdps means you contribute less than another job at equal skill and make the fight harder for your group. If I was armchair yoship for the day, I'd give all phys ranged classes a rez and potentially one additional support related cd (also give machinist a raid buff) and remove the rez function from smn for more damage (unsure about rdm I'd say yes remove it but not sure how rdm mains would take losing their rez for better damage).
Giving a rez and additional support would make sense on the damage scaling.
I didn't say DNC and BRD should have lower rDPS then MCH though. I just said MCH rDPS is too low and needs aDPS and rDPS to be buffed since it's technically the selfish physrange job. I also said in that sentence that BRD and DNC also need damage buffs so in fact it was the opposite. rDPS is way too important in the game due to the buff alignment meta basically being forced, I really wish it could be as simple as rDPS matters mostly for buff based jobs but that just ain't possible currently.DNC and BRD team buffs are already included in rDPS. So it's not fair to say they should have lower rDPS because they have buffs that are already accounted for in rDPS. If anything jobs that bring team DPS buffs should have slightly higher rDPS then purely selfish jobs. For aDPS and nDPS, selfish jobs should be higher. And they always are.
