Let's be real here. RPhys have been taxed since the beginning of time in this game, and it took only a combined kneejerk reaction that didn't happen until Stormblood to yank RPhys into unviable territory for a single tier once gear got settled in.
And I've only got two nickels for it because it happened TWICE in this game's history!
Heavensward: BRD/MCH cast times tied to damage. Creator Raid Tier had Double Ranged, pushing out Casters for the first time in the history of the game - why? Because of a Piercing Debuff on DRG that boosted their damage. They were already the pick for Melee with NIN at the time since MNK got shafted.
Stormblood: They didn't do away with DRG's Piercing Debuff. It's still there. Any time you didn't have a DRG as MCH/BRD? You weren't doing enough damage - especially if you were playing Stormblood MCH. DRG was again the go-to next to SAM/MNK in a party. Reaction? Remove all Type Debuffs without compensating any Physical Ranged Potencies under it.
Not to mention, throughout Stormblood was their initial intent on hiding potencies in Preliminary notes, preventing players from criticizing issues with a job that are blatant, such as WHM's Lily System at the time. This was caused by a Media Tour Reaction by the community with Lilies being really bad with Benison eating up all three just by using it(not the case now).
MCH is only receiving a lot of criticism surrounding its job right now because of the fact it is the worst DPS in the game by far. Hell, it doesn't even hold a candle to BRD/DNC!
What's more, the people who play MCH on this forum have had to wait 4+ years to even get a simple change to Hypercharge that could've been done in a Hotfix Patch, which is extremely silly. Why is it this way when other jobs get immediate fixes if something is completely wrong with their kit? We shouldn't have to wait that long for our job to actually contribute properly.
So at this point, I say just go full scorched earth with MCH and lock it out of every PF. EX, Savage, Ultimate? Just lock out the job. There is no reason why MCH should be doing this, and apparently the only way to get the Devs to actually listen to us is if the job is not being played at a public level in PF.
I also know it sounds rash to do so because "every job can complete content in this game" but when a job is extremely underperforming there's a problem when it's not addressed in a 7.05 patch:
- AC not resetting Double Check/Checkmate and being complete garbage(5+ to be useful!)
- Flamethrower being complete garbage(80p/s AoE that doesn't even generate heat, a resource we need for Hypercharge)
- One of the bigger issues for why MCH isn't doing big damage is Wildfire. Since it's tied to GCDs, Hypercharge is used in tandem with this via Barrel Stabilizer. Give us back HW Wildfire and let us stack the damage for huge damage. It was a thing then, and now that you've fixed Hypercharge it can be a thing now.
- Queen being a lackluster "Set and Forget" Button if you have Battery to spend during Burst(aside from hitting Overdrive to get rid of Queen early in some cases).
And that's just the most egregious issues we have at the moment with MCH that are holding the job back. The rest of the kit really feels like it works fine if not for those things. Considering MCH is competing against Buffs, MCH won't be seeing the light of day anytime soon unless it receives some major potency buffs to some of its kit, both in and out of burst.
