Check your battle log, positional damage should show under brackets with a % next to their skill if achieved, unless they changed this since last time I remember.

I didn't know this was a thing, however, it seems to be weird on Viper. I did have a quick look on Monk and it seems to be fine there.
From an unbuffed Viper, the final attack from the wrong positional is 52%. Again, from unbuffed, positionals hit, 60%.
With the venom buff, not hitting the positional is 40%, hitting the positional is 48%.
However, there is something weird. The second hits (Hunter's Sting and Swiftskin's Sting) get an automatic 60% for seemingly no reason, buffed, not buffed, whether the button glows or not, doesn't matter.
So, there is some weirdness there in what makes up that percentage. As a side note, I was testing whether it had something to do with actions on the same button, but things like Gnashing Fang, Lionheart, Confiteor etc. do not have % gain after, however, normal combos do. Couldn't tell you how they line up, as an example PLD's 123 at 220, 330, 460 potency has % of 48 on Riot Blade and 56 on Royal Authority. It has nothing to do with potency relative to the uncombo'd potency, or the potency from the previous attack, so no idea where it comes from.
