It'd be nice to be able to play

Bought the newest xpac, and a sub, but i can't make characters on my friends server. How long does this "congested" status go on for? Playing alone and paying even more to transfer later isn't an option. I'm out 65$ and can't play, they don't refund subscriptions "under any circumstances" (very cool). I saw some people on reddit say that you have to wait up until 3am or wait for a patch day and log in right after its done to have any hope.

How is this a serious system? lmao

It goes on until they change it which will be with a patch, don't hold your breath,

you can play together on other servers, you only need to share a homeworld for Free Companies which really isn't necessary

Every server on his data center is congested.



Kind of unacceptable in my opinion. MMOs are a social experience, if i can't play with my friends theres no point. They should add some kind of warning for returning players. I haven't played since 2015, and it looks like its going to be months. Who even knows if i'll still be interested by then.

Normally you can still make a character on a world that is temporarily congested. However the actual Congested status was introduced to prevent this and transfers entirely. It became necessary because people had "favorite" worlds that got too congested, and they wanted to push players to play on other worlds instead, which is rather important for the hardware to cope.

You can, however, temporarily visit other worlds by clicking the aetheryte at Gridania, Limsa or Ul'dah. You can visit other data centers using the Data Center Travel system by right-clicking on your character.

Since it's an expansion launch, it's the most congested time that the game gets, so now more than ever they are of course going to try and push people to make characters on the low-population data centers.

When I signed up I was told to check the server congestion status before i make any purchases/before i do a world transfer just in case something like this were to happen

If you're trying to get onto Primal or Crystal, some of those worlds have re-opened!
Aether is still out of luck, though.

I'm surprised that your friend didn't warn you about the congested status of the servers in his data center and work out a solution with you before you dove in. The status of Worlds are changed periodically in order to balance the population among them.
