I played FFXI, and I don't find the transition to new names all that difficult. You must have short-term memory loss or something if you can't remember a new set of names. Call them that yourself if you want (everyone will know what you're talking about, so its fine), but why force everyone else to call them that, and make SE go through lots of work just because you're too lazy?

I will not insult you, but I'm done with this thread as the point has been made.

Funny thing: This game is not XI. It just happens to be extremely extremely extremely close to it.

Not only that, but this world takes place in the world of Hydaelyn, not Vana'diel. Lore-wise it gives the world some originality to separate it from XI. And this games need more separation, not less. Just because you played XI doesn't mean that this game is XI. It's just a nice substitution.

However, anyone who says that the name changes would break the lore would be only half right. On one hand, one expansion can't just make an entire country - if not an entire world - of people change the way they call the other races. It's like one year passing and we don't call ourselves humans - we're Thag'oraki now. It doesn't make sense in a world and lore that is trying to take itself seriously even by a margin. On the other hand, we also have Materia from the world of VII, gunblades from the world of VIII, and a crystal tower from III, not to mention the name of the Garlean empire and the names of the classes.

Well if you want to get technical, it's not like the name of something can break the lore. Chocobos for example... They're still called chocobo's no matter what "planet" their on. Same goes for Cactars, Marlboros, Tonberries, Moogles, and the list goes on. The races in FFXII were used in several other games as well regardless of them being indirectly related.

I'll admit this was a lighthearted post, I never would have imagined people feel so strongly about the name. It's just always stuck me as pointless that they gave the races new names even though they are almost exactly the same thing and it bothers my OCD.

Except a majority of the community, aside from the uppity anally frustrated FFXI players calls them by their FFXI names. Roegadyn don't have tails. Miqo'te aren't nearly as furry. Lalafell don't look like horrid gremlin. Elezen players are far more annoying than in XI. Hyurs and Humes are the only ones who would be fine with a name change, but with the game's preexisting lore, why bother? Hyur isn't exactly difficult to pronounce. None of the names are. Move on. The setting and background for each race is entirely different.
