A caster casts spells. SMN casts spells. The speed of the casts doesn’t make them any less of a caster.
The devs have said they’re leaning more in job identity in 8.0. Summoner isn’t a Druid or a shapeshifter, though like I said, that would be a cool additional job to have. Summoners summon, and in this game what they summon are arcane constructs from the lingering aether of primals we’ve fought. What Summoner really needs is more summons… imo the very next thing that should be added is Levi, Shiva and Ramuh, which a large number of players have been requesting for years now.

It is a clear issue if you play high mobility job and you expected deal damage like hard caster or melee
Nope it is not gonna happened it is not fair and not balanced that's why summoner deal the least damage of almost all dps jobs
Summoner shape shift 2 abilities based on the summon
It is shapeshifter eve if you don't like it.
If it shape shift it should shapeshift correctly

i still say its not a shapeshifter, we didnt "transform" into a primal, we just learn their ability and incorporate it our ways (waving hand, book etc)
at least i dont remember any summoning in any ff game where you literally transform into the summon. we just summon them and they appear alongside us and fight together either for a short burst or for a while, its basically master servant kind of thing
Ff16 summoning style is the best in my opinioni still say its not a shapeshifter, we didnt "transform" into a primal, we just learn their ability and incorporate it our ways (waving hand, book etc)

No, thanks. That sounds awful.
Summoner =/= Shape shifter

We aren’t even a SMN right now, I have no idea why people think this iteration feels like a SMN. We are a glorified ruin mage while the primals have been reduced to non impactful nothingness we don’t even have to try to summon, there is no build up, no payoff. You just spam ruin
Old SMN had too many things going on but at least it had the impact of building towards Bahamut so it actually felt earned, modern SMN is just a void of a job
I’d be gone if they leaned into OP’s design (which evokes 16’s dominants who can semi prime or prime into their primals) or actually revert to something like ShB SMN without all the clutter where you actually spend time building towards your actual summons but “current job but add shiva, Levi and ramuh” is not the correct answer for this void of a job
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
I feel like if they slightly lengthened the time you spent in each summon phase and added more contextual spells to each, Summoner could feel a lot more complete too. Bahamut > Summon A > Summon B > Phoenix > Summon C > Summon D. Entirely replace Ruin with Gemshine, and have 3 extra spell slots that shift based on summon.
I doubt they'd revert to old Summoner levels of complexity (granted, I have no experience with that one, joined just shy of EW release) but that doesn't mean current summoner can't be a bit more interactive.
Rename to bahamut mage and call it a day. That's what we are so at least make it clear to not mislead people.
