    Wicked experiments that could have been in Dawntrail testing for the future

    • Moving one mob drop or all of one zone from bicolor gemstones vendor to actual mobs and trying out various ways of farming the mob for the resources (plain open world, levequest, hunting with retainers...)
    • Fates that are minigames and not combat or combat + gather. Catch an alpaca, race on toads, Olympic mini-games... curling, skijumping! Player rankings, world, global best scores leaderboards
    • Strong experience from side quests and fates for leveling alt-jobs from 1 to 100 (especially when adding 2 new DPS jobs).
    • testing new tier crafted combat gear releases - master crafts sellable on MB, market prohibited normal crafts for personal use slightly below it (and before the tier releases)
    • Armor set bonuses - expansion starter set with bonuses to fates, dungeons?
    • a tier gear without nearly-obsoleted stats to then retire some stats, change/add other
    • Areas like Mamook or Garlemald capital as "in-story" DoH/DoL content instead/aside short story-deliveries (Erenvile commenting on a mysterious gleaner providing good from another age, another time, Thancred commenting on mysterious entrepreneur adventurer with 10x the wealth of Lord Lolorito...)
    • long-term DoH/DoL/combat content like above that evolves how a zone looks like and what it has (Firmament Statue on much bigger steroids).
    • job trinity changes testing through sort of GC command missions where you would not play your character but a custom one - for example, ranged phys DPS that gets turned into DPS/Healer support job.
    • fell cleave for healers
    • more voiceover/voice narration of MSQ, less generic text-talk/move-out elements within MSQ quests. Potentially AI mass-generated voiceover similar to how WoW Classic voiceovers were generated (for the whole game!)

    That exists. The mobs still do and always have dropped the crafting mats. They were just also given to bisexual rock vendors.

    The issue is that anything that isn't a raid boss in XIV is a non-issue for our characters. Literally just close your eyes and hit literally any button. Hell, auto-attack it and you'll still win the war of attrition.

    Love this idea, GW2 does it, I have no faith in XIV doing it well, though. I'd love to see the record idea used for instanced battle content, though, like how XI shows you the server speedrun time when you enter it. Go play GW2, it's a better game.

    Levelling is already a joke, the carrot on the stick isn't the issue. The issue is that the quests aren't fun or involve even the smallest amount of decision-making or engagement with the world. Even "Go kill 5 boars" requires you to go find some boars. FFXIV will just tell you to stand in a specific purple puddle and it'll spawn them for you.

    Again, the issue is that the gearing system is already mind-numbingly uninteresting. Item level isn't a path to power, it's a "You must be this tall to ride" ticket. A way to make players feel busy. GW2 has more interesting gearing, just play that, it's a better game.

    This would require them to abandon the holy trinity and the "here's your raid kit, do it right" job design and I don't see them doing it. Again, just play GW2, it's a better game.

    Single biggest issue with sidequests it that they give a negligible amount of exp.

    Had doing all of them given you 10-20 levels then great. But no, they give like 3 levels max.

    Quests give about the same XP as fates do and require a much longer time investment, making them not worth it outside of the story and lore and even that was disappointing this time around, with only some blue quest chains being somewhat enjoyable. Buff the XP to at least a mil each. Might not be enough to level from 90-100 but it would at least make it a decent time investment over fate grinding

    But less and less. Now you have like 4 mobs on the map but fate trains have to pull 1000 hides from the gemstone vendor for the crafts. So likes what's the point of the open world and the mobs there? 8.0 could have a vendor next to an arena were fates would spawn one after another and it would have the same outcome, the same value. Would be nice if there was some balance between the world versus automation and quantity spam.

    And it's an option to make something new, not just make the mobs on the map overfarmed. We have retainers and we could go with the on a hut or or to scavenge some ruins... I'm still waiting to see my retainers in a crane ripping off roofs from large houses in the housing districts...

    DPS leveling is boring and often through specific niche content. Duty Finder is too slow, while the game has a fun-ish sidequests or just having fate trains or local fate groups to get those levels up. How many have the Haurchefant emote? How many gave Stormblood Catgirl her beloved future husband?

    That was more towards differentiating people that actually know crafts vs autopilot "omnicrafters". If the sellable gear sets were master crafts it would not be all rainbows and roses for lazy people Like right now end-game balancing is done around who can dump more time on it. Absurd amounts/values of materia, "grip gels" and the likes. Is someone a good crafter just because of macro-crafting collectibles 18 hours a day? And overmelds are a somewhat stupid gambling gil sink system that's annoying while not really serving any good purpose.

    A meme/metaphor. You can feel and hear the fell cleave while broils or glares are meh. I even got cleave glares on WHM but it doesn't reset out of combat so it's on every other trash pack and really meh impact in the end (too short, and not as good-looking). White magic was banned after the war of the magi and only a few white mages are allowed to be due to the side effects their magic causes. Scholars are commanders, where is their Tonberry that will do 999 to the enemy face? Healer job/trinity designers have to fantasia into a Lalafell, feel the Lalafell, immerse in the mischief and then make healers have that 10/10 feel.

    This didn't need to be a wicked experience at all. It's atrocious how much experience the side quests give. C'mon, you can just do them once... Why not giving a decent chunk?

    Moving them to be exchanged for gemstones was meant to be an improvement. When it's regular mobs that don't scale like FATEs people may get in eachother's way trying to farm them. It's also annoying to farm them due to being spaced out and the fact SE doesn't support AFK macros.

    I used purely sidequests and the 6 FATEs for the riding map in each area to level one of my jobs and it was behind, but only be about 2 levels by the end, I would say.

    Haven’t they technically done this before for some of the summer events? I don’t see why they couldn’t have some in normal areas.

    Agreed with this, sidequest exp is bafflingly low compared to exp required to level.

    They already made clear they won’t ever do serious ‘set bonuses’, either back in 2.0 or maybe around 3.0. Unfortunate, but I don’t think they have or will change their minds on this

    I like the idea but I couldn’t imagine how this would be possible unless they have the ‘sub-roles’ a very small and simplistic skill set.
