What do you think about Linkshell Tabards?

Hi guys! This is a discussion piece and I'm not begging or asking for this to be put in, so don't flame me.

When I used to play the world's largest MMO, there was this thing called the Tabard. Basically as a guild leader or officer, you can design your own pattern, choose your own color, and everyone in the guild who wears the tabard will display that pattern. What do you think, would this fit in FFXIV 2.0?


An example is here, the tabard is purple, so everyone in his guild displays the same pattern/color when they wear the tabard. You don't have to wear it, but many people do to represent. Of course the design and pattern should be modified to be Final Fantasy flavored, and nothing too outlandish. I think it could work if it is kept within the artistic boundary and integrity of this game. But what do you think?





Of course it doesn't have to be tabard, as some people mentioned, it could be shoulder plate, or chocobo armor, for example this screenshot from a mod for Bethesda's most recent game (Nov 2011).





Notice the yellow shoulderpad, it can be something like that, or a pad on the chocobo, something we can definitely take and can still be tasteful.

I wouldn't be against something like this, but not for linkshells.

For Free Companies, sure. Maybe have a base design across all Free Companies that add a set number of stats, then the design can be adjusted by the FC Leader without changing the stats.

This would be fine as well. It doesn't have to be directly like this. They can steal the idea, and improve it so it can fit with FFXIV, something that can represent linkshell perhaps. Or maybe the tabard on our chocobos instead on our bodies, that would work as well.

Please don't think too much about the image, of course it wouldn't look like that. I would hate for it if it looked like that from the world's largest MMO. But the idea is what matters.

tabards naaah too WoW'ish for my liking.

or a flag up my chcocobos rea... well something like that.

Stealing the idea is fine imo thou, but in a diffrent way lol

Definitely a shoulder plate would be awesome. Any of these can work if implemented right.

I love the idea of a side cape or shoulder plate, depending on if your wearing armor, or leather or cloth the item can vary. It can easily be a singular item that changes form depending on what job your on.

In the past I have also suggested that Blacksmith and or Armorer be able to craft a Linkshell / Company Coat of Arms and a Weaver craft a Wall Scroll or Hanging tapestry displaying the Linkshell / Company crest. These items would be displayed in your home or Grand Company house.

A badge or cloak could be pretty cool.
