This is an insane take. Imagine thinking that splitting up friend groups is a good thing. They literally talked about shutting off cross data center on stream as one of the solutions if things came down to it because at the end of the day, breaking up statics and venues is better having 75% of your region with no access to current raid tier PF content. If people actually handled the responsibility of data center travel properly and just visited other worlds instead of staying there all day and doing everything from there content wise, we wouldn't have been in this situation. Aether had 3-5k logins at Dawntrail with cross data center disabled. Their servers would've been massacred if it was triple by travel. They need to shut off people grouping up and have them spread out for hardware stability and overall content health.
This is the real world. I'm sorry you don't like the idea of changes being implemented that have downsides. At the end of the day, the game existed for what? 7 years without data center travel. Majority of people aren't unsubbing even if they did take it out completely. Data center travel is a privelege, not a right.
Yeah, and when I first started playing, EU had only one datacenter. I had friends on Zodiark who just got moved away from Chaos. We were in different FCs and neither of us were going to abandon other friends just to hang out. DC Travel was the bandaid we needed to play together again. This is the real world. I'm sorry you don't like the idea of changes being implemented that have downsides. At the end of the day, the game existed for what? 7 years without data center travel. Kindly piss off with your "travel is a privilege, not a right". It's been a part of the game for many people who, quite literally, don't know any different.
And you conveniently left out what you did until in the meantime. (according to google) Light was added on April 2, 2019 compared to July 2022 when Data Center Travel was released. What did you do during that 3 year time period?
Continue chatting with them on discord while hoping we'd be able to play again. And we were allowed to again in 2022 just like you said.
What's more, I eventually found out some people I know from outside Final Fantasy also played, and played on Light. So that unlocked too! Between old friends on Light, Chaos, some new friends we picked up on Light along the way thanks to DC travel, we were able to make a static that perfectly suits us. A static that I wasn't allowed to play with today because they shadowdropped new restrictions instead of "removing the restrictions" like they stated.
Heck, when they added being able to go to OCE, I was stoked because now I was even allowed to play with my pals in the american region without resorting to my Halicarnassus alt!
Now I can barely even play with them with either OCE OR Halicarnassus alt! Amazing.
Anyway, what's your point? Why does it matter "what I did during that 3 year period". What matters is what I, and so many other players, did with a feature that's been a part of the game for 2 years now. It's far, FAR too late to be walking this back in an attempt to not have to work on a solution to a perceived problem with the system.

Because the point is that, as hard of a pill as it may be to swallow, your friendships don't matter. The vast majority of people are not going to uninstall the game just because they can't play with a friend. You'd faster make an alt than quit the game. Most people would rather make a new static, than quit the game. So from a business perspective, when they are seeing community goals and content health not met, mass segregation happening in multiple regions, they have hardware being overly stressed, investing millions to obtain new infrastructure to help relieve it, and the community says "f*** your investments, I want to play where I want with my friends", what did you think the response would be? You're going to bark on the forums and social media about losing your friends and static, the same way that people had barked and complained /for years/ about the things that just got fixed finally because they cut off travel. Your friendships is not at the top of their priority list. So speaking on behalf of the suits at SE, you can take that "kindly piss off" and look in the mirror. Because everyone that dealt with a dead party finder and roulette, dead venues, dead open world for years, is finally happy. At the end of the day, they were more important than you.
Tried datacenter travel so I could bring our bits some gear I crafted on my main (my wife's main is in another dc). First it hung for at least 5 minutes at the character screen with just the rotating indicator in the bottom right corner to indicate it was doing anything. Eventually it gave a message with an estimated time of 1 minute. About 8 minutes later I get the 2021 error of world data could not be obtained. Now I restart the game choose Data Center and select my main's home DC and instead of giving me the character selection window to return my bit to my home DC, it goes to the DC travel log in screen with a timer. After about 7-9 minutes, this errors. Usually with the 2021 error. That's been going on for about 50 minutes now. The time before last it gave me a message about the transfer failing, but I can't get to a character selection screen anywhere. I've tried selecting the bit's home DC. I tried the DC I was trying to travel to, nothing. Just endless loop of it auto joining the transfer queue and then failing with no way to cancel it, etc.
Whatever code you added to vary things based on ever changing dc population is putting bits into this limbo of who knows where. My guess is that it's allowing dc travel and then at some point during the queued travel the world switches to not allow and the transfer is prevented from completing. But that's a complete guess. What I would like though is the ability to get to a character screen anywhere, even just to create a new bit somewhere to kill time.
As if they didnt force you to make friends on one server and data center (because pf) and then split your server location (aka known as the Crystal Split.)This is the real world. I'm sorry you don't like the idea of changes being implemented that have downsides. At the end of the day, the game existed for what? 7 years without data center travel. So you make friends and then they split you.
A Right? Please.
If you allow something in your game then its your OBLIGATION to make it work, if youre getting paid a subscription especially.
If you cannot make it work then close the feature.
