That's the thing, you can't see the situation on a target dummy because of the lack of the Dance Partner. In practice, you'd almost always see an overcap state.I mean yes you are technically correct that it does not follow the pattern of Manafication (melee combo), Plentiful Harvest (enshroud) and so on, but honestly from a quick glance and test on striking dummies, you can actually hold Tillana for 30 seconds.
It's not even a combo you'd break; you can use regular combo and proc skills as well as Saber Dance / Dance of the Dawn to manage Esprit before using Tillana and prevent overcap yourself. Mind you I don't exactly main Dancer, but I don't quite see the issue here if you got a 30 second window to generate the +50 Esprit without losing it.
EDIT: At most I can see a silly situation if you sit on like 40-45 Esprit before Technical Step and then have a weird waiting period for reaching 50 gauge or risk losing a bit of Esprit or perfectly aligned potencies by going Tillana early.
