Launching the game through Steam causes black screen on startup

Hello. When i launch the game from Steam the game wont load. It just makes the screen black forever.

    1. Launch the game from Steam.
    2. Type in account details in the FF14 launcher and click play.
    3. Screen goes black

I have heard people say this is related to the Steam overlay but i have that turned off. I turned off all the overlays i can think of (Discord, Steam, AMD software) but its still happening.

I tried searching for the problem on google and there are posts from 2 years ago from people having the same issue. If this is going to be a permanent thing that wont be addressed then im sorry but i have to cancel my subscription.

I use Steam too, after I click Play the screen goes black for about 30 seconds with the mouse cursor changed to a blue rotating circle, after about 30 seconds the Square Enix logo pops up and then the title screen is shown, once I click Start the screen changes to the character select menu with nothing showing up for another 20 seconds, just the "Now Loading" icon rotating in the bottom corner of the screen.

This started happening straight after the patch yesterday.

I loaded up my Legacy account afterwards (Windows PC version) by clicking the "ffxivboot.exe" located in the /steam/steamapps/common/Final Fantasy XIV Online/boot folder, and it has no issue logging in and loading up, so it's using the steam files no problem, however something about launching the game via Steam directly is causing some kind of issue for some people, including myself.

This also has been happening to me. I have Steam overlay turned off, so it's just the Steam app causing it -- what "works" is, log in, but before clicking Play, shut down steam.exe from the Task Manager. Of course this will leave you unable to play with a controller, if you use it. It's pretty annoying to deal with.
