RIP Viper 28/06/2024 - 30/07/2024. It was a fun month.
I haven't touched viper yet so I don't really have a horse on this race. However, I have compiled the feedback from several of my friends which amounts to: The unique combo structure was what made VPR fun. If you remove the unique combo structure, which is an aspect that people liked, why even bother making new classes?
At that point, just delete all jobs and make a single TANK, HEALER, PHYS RANGED, MAGI RANGED, MELEE DPS classes. It really is that simple. A job that had a lot of potential, squandered because the game designers keep listening to the players who don't even engage with battle content above dungeon level.
Yoshida says he'll look at job diversity/job identity stuff for 8.0 but if the immediate reaction to any deviation is to completely change the loop of a NEW JOB THAT HASN'T BEEN OUT FOR A MONTH, I have zero hope that there will ever be any interesting job now and in the future.
Personally, when I tested Viper and Pictomancer for myself, it took me a bit to get what they were going for. It challenged me, because I had no idea what I was doing. Even after hitting the dummies for a bit I felt like I was missing something, and I said "Okay, I'll try again later."
People that can't hit 1-2-3 on their keyboard to save their life WON'T play viper (or picto) even after the changes. Stop making decisions around them because they're moaning in the forums.
Oh yeah, they even removed the damage over time effect for the VIPER JOB, you know, like snakes, that are meant to be venomous? That bite down on stuff and inject poison? Yeah, those snakes. Removing the poison from the snake job shows us how commited they are to the 8.0 "job identity" changes. Unbelievable.
