EU Ping - Data Center Travel to Raid

    Hey guys,

I’m not great with a how things work like this. We have a potential raid member that would like to join our group in NA (Crystal-Coeurl) but they are in Finland. (Light-Alpha).

1.) Would their ping be not worth doing this in your opinions?

2.) Traveling to raid with one another, would it be possible?

    Thanks in advance!

You can currently only travel to the oceanic dc cross-region, so if their character isn't on one of the NA DCs it means that for you all to play together you'd all have to DC travel to Materia.

As for ping between regions, there certainly is some but generally it's not too big of an issue especially if you're used to it, many hardcore statics have players from both NA and EU. The NA players I know who play on EU generally don't have any major issues with ping.

Dunno if it would be a bigger issue with ping to Materia though.

Best way to know is to try it. If you still have some time try a few Ex with them to see how ping play out for them.
+ doing a trial run, if only to see if you are a good match is usually good practice if you're going to prog savage as a fixed group.

    1) There is no problem with ping. I have never told anyone my ping when joining a static... it's also just not an issue if you understand how the game works. If you run out of the red circle before it disappears or do a mechanic before the cast bar ends, you will be fine - even at 200 ping. It's all about understanding snapshotting and if you understand this it really doesn't matter if your ping is high. Doing mechanics on Materia with 400 ping isn't really a problem for me either.

If you really are struggling for some reason - such as it passing through unreliable routers, greatly fluctuating ping and issues like that, you can either try a VPN or try to predict the required movement in advance. Predicting mechanics is realistic for this game in most cases because of how scripted it is.

The biggest issues are with the rotation and weaving. It may require them to try a single-weave rotation or a weave-light job. However, I have personally been able to double-weave with over 150 ping; it just depends on the job and the animation delays which are different for each ability. If it's desired to avoid clipping though, trying to single weave where possible may help. Using swiftcast as a healer is really annoying, because rez starts casting despite Swiftcast.

But it's really not an issue and I've cleared plenty of high-end duties over the last 10 years.

    2) The only cross-region travel possible is from any region to the OCE region (Materia data center). On this data center only, a person from Crystal can meet a person from Light. Both pings will likely be very high there unless the players are in the OCE region.

They could do a paid transfer to an NA data center such as Dynamis and then everyone travel to Dynamis to raid. Currently NA can only travel to Dynamis and not to other NA data centers. It's expected that NA data centers will be able to travel to eachother again (such as Crystal and Dynamis to Aether) when savage releases and Yoshi-P mentioned this would be the latest the restrictions would be in place.

I play on NA with 230ms ping, I have cleared Abyssos Savage with no issue and no VPN, you just can't greed AoEs which isnt an issue when just trying to do damage and clear

They would however have to transfer their character to NA since cross region travel isnt a thing yet

It depends what you mean by mechanics. At 300-400ms doing interrupts on shorter cast spells becomes EXTREMELY hard and sometimes impossible, if you play a non-interrupt job then no biggie. Some Dawntrail mechanics resolve fairly quickly, snapshotting might be an issue with some fights but not others.

This might be a good point because, I mean, if this were Endwalker fights with the in-out P9S style mechanics... yeah. Plenty of time to work around ping. But since they are trying to make fights more exciting maybe it'll be more of a consideration. Still, I thought that with Shadowbringers and Endwalker initially because we had "fast" fights in E4, Tower of Zot and the Dead Ends. But what we got overall wasn't really a problem for ping. So it just remains to be seen. We've had the "we're making fights faster" teaser before tbh.
