Yeah I gotta be honest after finishing the MSQ I basically don't even think about Wuk Lamat anymore besides laughing at memes I see with her in it here and there. I dislike her too, but people are spending way too much time thinking about a character you (thankfully) don't have to interact with anymore.

For the same reason Raiden was dislike for a very long time in Metal Gear Solid. For the same reason if in Mass Effect Trilogy, the main character of Mass Effect 2 wasn't Shepard but Henry McStarship, a boring character without any dialogues options or romance, this game would be so hated that the original ending of the Trilogy would have been "acceptable" for most in comparison.

A lot of people like this game more than they should (me included), and now, a significant part of the game is about a character they don't like. Not just a patch or a raid storyline but a whole expansion, something that only happen every few years.
And their characters, that they loved and played with for thousands of hours, that were always a central figure in the storyline before (and that's one of the strenght of this game for me, being able to organically integrate a mute and customizable character not only in the storyline but also the Lore of an MMORPG so well), were relegated to a very very siddish role. All that after two years of patches that were the worst received ever, with already a character that had the same (but less) flaw with Zero.

Ironically, peoples who hate Wuk Lamat for most hate her more than they should because they care too much of this game.

The difference is that Alphi gets his pride kicked in hard. He was too blind to see that the Crystal Braves were using him.

The difference is that Alphi gets his pride kicked in hard. He was too blind to see that the Crystal Braves were using him.

It's not just this plot twist that humbles him, either. There's that scene where he tries to shame the heads of state into supporting Ishgard and Merlwyb dresses him down pretty harshly.

But the big difference between Alphinaud and Wuk is that Alphinaud has actually put in the work to understand things, not just show up and coast through on vibes and nepotism. While his naivete results in being outmaneuvered by Teledji and Lolorito, his idea to take in the Domans is a really politically savvy move which pays out huge dividends for expansions to come, and throughout 2.x you can see that he's competent enough to steer Minfilia's decisionmaking even though she's technically in charge.

If I wanted western games I'd buy western games.

How many Square Enix conference have I watched hoping to get something that interest me, just to get some games for the western market... Squaresoft understood Japan and west were not so different. But when they fused with Enix it seem the "western public don't like japanese games" mentality came back and 20 years later, it's there. Yeah, watch Nintendo, FromSoftware, Capcom, Atlus... Persona being a hit in the West should have been the final nail in the coffin of that bullshit mentality, but for some reason, at SE, it's still there. Just stop trying to please everyone (especially the twitter crowd) and try to make good games.

That's how I felt when playing it: I, the player, the character, I was just a camera. A camera that focus on Wuk Lamat, she is the central character, she is the mighty, she is the coolest. Me, the player, I'm just a follower of her, a side character like all the other scions. I did not teach her anything, don't give her any help, she is totally capable of everything herself. Square Enix should remove that character with a sword on its shoulder in the expansion logo and place Wuk Lamat there instead, because the game is all about her. I, player, I'm completely appalled on how unimportant and trivial my presence in this expansion is. I'm sure I'm not going to buy another expansion for this game. The thing that would bring me back to this game is if Wuk Lamat dies, preferable in my hands and no other. Nothing else will bring peace to me.
