After Dawntrail MSQ implications\speculation (major ending spoilers)

Hi everyone, if you are like me and enjoy speculating, this thread is for you.

After beating Dawntrail one huge thing sticks out and that is the interdimensional McGuffin Chalice thing. Perhaps you noticed the Azem symbol appearing on it?

No doubt I think the following patches will have the scions analyze it and use its power to let Yshtola go to the first and hug Runar. This was basically the real goal of the post EW patch content.

But who made it? What is it?

I believe this device was made by none other than Azem. Of course we get the clue of the symbol but there is more. Azem is tied to the Aloala stuff and the Milala are now tied to that as well. They just happen to have this ancient relic no one knows who made or how it works. Keep in mind when it comes to Azem the writers love to be vague and mysterious just as the origin of this device.

But I suggest to you we seen this power of interdimensional fusion before.

It is the very power we use everytime we embrace the Azem crystal and call upon our 7 buddies\shards\whatever have you. Consider the Exarch used the same power in Shadow Bringer. It puzzled even Emet.
But it can temporarily fade together the dimensions such that brave heroes beyond the rift appear and fight together.

I think Azem must have been experimenting with the ability just out of natural curiosity to explore. Though it may be sundered Azem who made it.

It seems the Chalice just allows for a bigger more potent version of us summoning our 7 buddies beyond the rift as it summoned a whole section of Alexandria.

I find it being created by the original Azem to be the most plausible direction. The original has already shown to have some precognition. I think the designs on the relic/key somewhat 'mimic' Amaurotian design. This could potentially elude to why they didn't involve themselves into the goings-on with their predecessor Venat, I don't think it was a sundered that made this.

I don't actually think the intended original purpose of the device is for interdimensional fusion, as that is quite a sinister purpose, if you ask me, but rather just something enabled by loading it up with electrope. Personally, my thought process is... Original Azem knew exactly what was going to happen, wanted it to run its intended course, and develop a device which could allow one to travel the stars to take their mantle, so to speak.

Of course, all this could also just be nonsense and it could've just been that the key was reacting to the invocation rather than being something actual Azem.

Edit: I think they will leave this device open to interpretation (the origins, the purpose, etc.,) - Devs like to be mysterious with Azem and everything surrounding them because they are in some ways an extension of our character, and I don't think they'll want to break more of that wall - What they have now is really good around the character.

I like your ideas, but I’m really hoping they don’t just leave it a mystery… While I doubt they’d go full-on flashback using our character model in place of Ancient Azem, there’s no reason they couldn’t. But I’d still like a patch of two to explore the key’s origins, as well as how it ended up with the Milalla, and what else it might be capable of. After all, it didn’t “just” open a gateway to another shard. Whether it was enhanced later or not, it physically brought part of another shard to the source somehow.

I’m leaning towards the idea that it was created by an ancient, if not ancient Azem. Like you say, it had to be someone who knew what Venat was planning, because why else would you need an interdimensional device?
