You can't suddenly stop caring about real-world references if you never cared in the first place. It didn't start with this expansion.

All I got in regards to culture was that the Peruperu location reminded me of some towns in Puerto Rico, awkward elevation between houses and all. Don't remember any alpacas though

I did appreciate the role quests as it felt like interesting insights into the Xak Tural and the one from Yak Tural, which all the Xak ones are all based on some form of native from north america and canada. Shaaloani I was surprised by how it had a couple other tribes present. And the fisher quest having a whalaqee made me very invested. I have spent a good deal of time just afking into the Xak Tural towns as the town music that plays there is very charming and even hunted down the orcehstrion for that.

I do very much hope that the 7.X patches bring more of the Xak Tural (aka north america) stuff along with new zones, but I must stress that these tribes need fleshing out. Like I have gripe about the tribes from the role quests, which is I don't actively recall seeing the various native representatives actually say what tribe they are from. Just that they come from a tribe and that we know each of these tribes is different from the other based on their traditions.

And this has been my pet peeve with the whalaqee. As while they do have a name, and some cultural stuff we do know about, yet after the ARR stuff for blue mage, it was largely guesswork and barren for trying to find any cultural stuff about the group. And that the most influential lore that came about for the whalaqee tribe required reading the same book from 6.55 (the one where Wuk Lamat visits Old Sharlayan) in both english and japanese to gain a fuller picture. Like the only reason I know the the person that Pashenine brought with him is a shaman to oversee his rite of passage, is because I read the in-game book in japanese where it tells you that fact. That detail is omitted from the english version. Likewise the only reason I know the whalaqee are very protective of ceruleum, is actually because in japanese it is phosporous water that they protect. Likewise in japanese, the whalaqee tribe is meant to be from this remote location where hardly anyone knows about them except for the fact they are guardians of water (aka ceruleum), while in english erenville lists the facts about the whalaqee as if they are common knowledge.

That's because I just see Doma as Japan with heavy Chinese influence so it didn't bother me

In fact most non-Chinese won't even recognize the Chinese influence in that area

The music made sense to me. The day theme represents not the land itself, but the "vacation" theme (given that Tuliyollal is the first place we visit in the New World), while the night theme is a bossa nova style (aka from Brazil).
