A core component of FF is missing (now) from 14

Why is it that every FF game you play, has a huge emphasis on status effects except 14??
Are we dumbing down the game so much because of people playing healers? Why are you playing a healer if you dont like being a healer??????

In the past 14 did have a weight on status effects healers had to heal, even in very low lvl content, brayflox had a poison component on the final boss that could wipe a group if not healed properly.

And to people thinking "Too much weight will be put on healers" Well there is a whole pharmacy of consumables for you to heal your own status effects if you want. This at least gives healers something to do besides 2 2 2 2 4 2 2 2 2 4

Status effects from missed mechanics (Glares with blinds and petrifyes) Status effects that randomly target people (silences on mdps, blinds on phys dps, binds on ranged)

Status effects that target tanks (Dooms, poisons)

    Dispelable vuneralbilities....etc etc.

They really got rid of a HUGE depth of gameplay for healers all to make the content consumable by the lowest common denominator.

The role quest for healers in Dawntrail was basically a huge "Hey remember Esuna? Because you need Esuna here. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ESUNA IN YOUR HOTBAR." so it is my hope that we will see more status effects coming up in the future.

This was actually my first impression when I started playing in 2017. Stun, daze, poison, etc.. they are not being utilized as much now. I hate to compare but having moved from Blade and Soul where multiple stuns can interrupt bosses, players here don't even use interrupt as much and it has long CD on tanks. Selene on SCH also lost its AOE Esuna.

This type of gameplay teach people to not stay on focus

Personally I play healer in other games very competitive but when it comes to ffxiv I am no focusing because my mind trained to use 111111111111 all the time

You're right in that it doesn't use Bind or Silence much, likely because unless it is as a punishment for failing a mechanic, it just feels bad. EDIT: I'm pretty sure the complaints about the Strayborough expert dungeon is from the first boss... which has lots and lots of minions that apply "Bind" for 3 seconds and "Silence" for another 8 if you fail their mechanic.

But there's plenty of DOTs, plenty of stuns, plenty of gaze mechanics, all the time? In all the fights.

Any sort of DOT is one of the most prolific status effects in the game these days. Whether it's poison, bleed, or fire. Current EX1 has a *permanent DOT* on everyone, uncleansable, for the last half of the fight.
In fact they sometimes combine tank-specific DOTs with a tank-specific vuln-up status effect to punish any attempt at cheesing a tankbuster with invulnerability. So that if they take two hits, and get the vuln-up, and a heavy DOT bleed, then they can invuln all they want but a single tick of the bleed after invuln ends will do 100k damage per tick so... yeah they ded. Very noticeable in P5S and EX1

Pandemonium savage has *so many* status effects to pay attention to, that I had to specifically go into my HUD settings to grab the UI element and put it at 200% to keep track of stuff. Snakes being quite 'fun' for this where you also have to look at your party member debuffs. Or how about countdown timers for when you're gonna get an AOE dropped on your head? I think there's a couple EW extremes that make liberal use of those.

Dawntrail normal raid also has status effects. 2nd raid: you get a maximum of 3 hearts. It fills up, you're charmed and stunned in place. You can still survive things, but healers have to pay attention. They usually don't, so people who fill up this bar will die. Also poison DOTs.
Third raid? you get hit twice you're stunned for a few seconds.
Fourth raid? pretty sure doing mechanics wrong leads to a cleansable paralysis effect and a DOT. Healers can esuna this. And I think players can just bring Spine Drops themselves for this if they want.
I suspect that savage will go even more nuts with this (I hope so)

And this is just off the top of my head, there's plenty more.

Status effects are a bit messy for a game like FFXIV. Due to the games design of "player over job".

Same reason they haven't bothered with dots and removed the wind-up for monks. Since they end up causing situations where those don't get to participate as much in certain fights.

It's because this game is an MMORPG and that makes it DPS-oriented. People are obsessed with DPS so if they have to Esuna then they have lost their precious DPS uptime. The implementation was also poor in many cases, with the status effects lasting about as long as it would take to Esuna anyway. I thought about what might make someone Esuna and one of the things would be sleep, but in this game being attacked by the boss means sleep is interrupted anyway.

I thought about what would make healers actually heal and esuna a lot and I think combat speed is a big factor. If the GCD was changed to 10 or 20 seconds (as extreme as that sounds), and the rest of the time was just dodging mechanics, it would mean that you have to think more carefully about what you spend that rare GCD on. A heal? Or an attack? You won't get to use it again for 10 or 20 seconds. So it might make you heal.

That would make it more like traditional FF games, where because your attacks are much less frequent, you have to decide more carefully if they will use an attack or a heal.

Its a other building piece and task for the healers that is basicly ignored.
There are a lot of status effects conditions in the game but rarely something we can esuna. :/
