Do we really need a new hyper advanced civilization in every expansion now?

    ARR and HW had Allag
    SB introduced Omega
ShB had Ronka and the Ancients
EW had the Ancients again, moon bunnies and the Omicrons
    DT has the Alexandrians

Do we really need a new one every damn expansion now? It feels like so lazy and uninspired. I know an ancient hyper advanced civilization is a compelling idea, one of the reasons that kept ARR interesting and Mass Effect for example but it just feels a bit much at this point.

Oh, and Garlemald is one too, completely forgot about that one!

Probably. Personally I can't wait for Amaurot 4.0 in 8.0.

Hyper technology was always on brand for the FF franchise. I think almost every Final Fantasy got an element like that. Some are more prevalent through the whole story like FF7 or FF13, while others are very obscured by the high fantasy genre at first, like FF9 (and not suprisingly, Dawntrail's story).

In fact, the only title I can remember out of my head to not have hyper advanced tech is FF Tactics, but even there we have steampunk-ish technology at some point.

I do think it kinda cheapens the world building.
"Garlemald is the most civilization ever!"
"Allag was the most advanced civilization ever!"
"The Ancients/Omicrons were the most civilization ever!"

I think on some cases- like the Ancients or the Omicrons- it's justified and flows well with the story/lore. But I felt Alexandria being compared to Allag (sometimes in terms of relative superiority) felt a bit tired.

We had Amaurot and now Amaurot with ice cream stands, I can't wait to see what twist they'll have for the next one! Ooh, and maybe we'll get another pointless hallucination dungeon that we have no agency in as the final dungeon! Now that would be a treat.

An advanced civilization like Alexandria does make more sense on one of the reflections, as on the Source there were the Umbral Calamaties, which kinda destroyed every empire around when they occured, except for the Seventh which was kind of made not as bad by Louisoix. Those Calamities never happened on the Reflections, so they've had the chance to build mostly uninterrupted since the Sundering when not being messed up by the Ascians.

As for the Omicrons and also Karellians, they're aliens from completely different planets. Super advanced alien civilizations are kind of an age old trope.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about Garlemald too! And Alexandria being compared to Allag and Sphene basically being an Ascian. Why didn't they just make it another Allagan city or tied to the Ancients and made Sphene an Ancient when they're basically almost identical already? Just feels pointless adding all these new concepts with souls being harvested and all this AI nonsense when they're basically just the Ascians again but with a different name.

Well yeah but that doesn't mean they have to invent a new one for every expansion. I never said I didn't like the concept but it feels ridiculous that new ones keep popping up like mushrooms in the rain. Eorzea feels like they're just banging rocks together over there compared to all this crap we've seen.

You do have to realize the most latest rendition of hyper technology is functionally over a 6,000 year old civilization? Allag did not even exist when Alexandria did. Just the motion of time is an obvious thing that happens. If you take into account Eorzea has functionally had to reset how many times? It is not too startling that we would look a bit inferior to any other reflection. Picture where human technology would be in 6,000 years from now.

Granted I'd not say the latest is the most advanced running around, as after all their signing grace is just Electricity Rock. Sounds good on paper, but at end of the day it is just a means to convert energy 1:X it is for Energy to Item. Nothing it made was astoundingly so out of reach for us to break that even our rock clubbing was more than enough to handle it.

Though yea, they did make their massive affront to the natural order of things, but she is far from the level of Ascian. Gotta remember their level of power was enough to split dimensions and create 14 reflections of a world. At best, Sphene can barely run a cloud data storage solution without it not working despite literally having infinite electricity to fuel her tower.

Outside that, who knows where they will go, as the last reflection we saw was inferior or near-same technology wise to our current in Endwalker or or Shadowbringers.

I recognize all this but at the same time. You realize that all of this was written for this expansion and didn't exist before it? Like they don't have to keep pulling these new hyper advanced civilizations out of their asses for every expansion unless God Yoshi is holding them at gunpoint in which case, carry on.
