Are we destroying "our own" game?

The only reason I came to the forums (after being inactive on it for literally 10 years) was because the story frustrated me, It was genuinely making me angry how smothering and cumbersome of a presence Wuk Lamat was and I wanted to see what others thought.

I am enjoying it immensely. The only thing I don't like is they took my DRG dive away But the more I think about it, I like the weird Dragon soul thing they are going for, so it isn't that bad. I guess.

I like that we aren't the center of attention and doing all of the work. I also like the parts where the bad guys don't know who I am and I get to be cocky. Wuk's energy is great.

But I am scared to even post this, cuz all the haters.

JP isn't happy about Wuk Lamat either, it's not a language issue. The EN voice acting doesn't help for those with EN audio, but the text is still pretty much the same...
I mean, every aspect of anything could be reduced to a taste thing, but "not being the main character" is only really an issue because of the way it's written: we had many other moments in past expansion where we were not in the spotlight, but we still felt like A CHARACTER. I think it all comes down to how much you care about character writing and your own character in the game.

Also, as much as it sounds "sad" that the forums grew because of bad feelings...they should be aware of that by now. At least 10 years ago, they were.

Same. Liked to not be the center of attention, it's something different. I don't play on German, even though it's my native tongue, becasuse I personally... miss the fantasy element in it, at least in ARR before I switched to English. Feels more like, idk Stuttgart than Eorzea, but I digress.
Wuk Lamat's English voice and accent can be grating at times, but I, personally, think she's just a people's person, and comes after her papa (even though they aren't relöated by blood).

Ahh I see thanks! I have to admit I like a good story in ff14 but I am not playing the game primarly for the story. I mean I kind of play it for msq but I am not that attached to the characters in it as most of the time of an expansion I play the game with my fc or in game friends.
Totally agree on the part of "devs should be aware" of the community but how is it that so many people like playing the game or at least play the game still?

I lost faith in the writing during Endwalker. It feels like the MSQ got some Hildibrand influence, which makes me not take the story seriously. This is abit of a rant so feel free to skip it

Y'shtola, water froth and foam, I don't think I cringed during the msq, but that made me make a face.

Post EW MSQ made me actually drop it. I don't think I paid genuine attention to it after Barbaricia....I thought Zero would be compelling but instead we got a 'let's bash Zenos for the entire post EW', cmon let the man sleep already. I get it, writers hate him, majority of players find him divisive/hate him, yoshi p hates him. But guys we tried not to upset anyone with the msq, except those who like Zenos cause he's actually satan, but Emet's an angel guys look he had a good reason to commit all those atrocities! Look he even hyped the next expansions and doesn't even want to see you again...

Anyway, rant aside. I never really spoke about the story here because there's no point, my opinion is fairly unpopular and it'll remain an opinion....but the MSQ has nothing for me after EW, no Zenos, no Emet, no Elidibus, no Lahabrea, it's especially awful to give back these characters and then take them away which made EW actually painful to me. I find it hard not to resent the scions who have infinite plot armor no matter what.

For me I'm surprised people hate DT story which makes me really concerned despite having really low expectations. I think people been really upset about the visa/payment thing that they decided to do before the expansion plus the benchmark and graphical upgrade that seems to have people unhappy. I usually lurk on forums and rarely post but the benchmark caused me to post often...there's a sense of therapy I guess to see that I'm not crazy, that there are other people who feel the same way....

I have no opinion on DT and it's content. I still don't feel motivated to even do the post EW MSQ, but it's not like it's gonna go anywhere. In general, you'll find people complaining on forums more often than not because someone who is happy won't go on the forums most likely. I still believe that only the JP side of the forums really matters anyway.

I'm not destroying anything- I'm a customer consuming a product that I paid for.
I am dissatisfied with the quality of some of its aspects and am using the official and recommended channel to voice my concerns.
I don't hate DT as a whole- the combat content so far is quite good (the best in the last 6 years or so, really) and, while I think it's hit or miss compared to the past expansions, the OST still has many quality tracks.
People aren't a monolith- while some aspects are more generally criticized for their poor execution (msq), many others will vary in degree depending on the expectations and personal taste of each player.
Regardless, I don't like the way this is phrased, shifting the blame onto the "players" for "destroying the game". This isn't something players can do to begin with- we don't develop the game- and it's not our responsibility to provide a quality game or even figure out the solution to the problems we spot with the product. I don't understand this trend of shifting the onus of "making the game good" or "finding solutions" or even "consuming the product happily" onto the paying customer. That's just not how it works.
The opposite, especially in XIV, players voicing their concerns is how they got out of the 1.X hole. It's very disingenuous to frame it in this way.

There's not being the main character, and then there is being relegated to cheerleader forced to like something. Literally, the few times we can respond with something other than praise to Wuk, another character chimes in saying that the WoL is happy or supportive of Wuk. We weren't the main character through SB and even HW through most of their campaigns, but we were still not simply a cheerleader.
