DT's story for the most part is fine when compared to games in the MMO genre as a whole. The story is still more coherent than competitors. However, compared to the rest of XIV it is a bit lacking IMO. I still enjoyed the story bar a very specific character. I found the world design, music, combat, and class updates to be the best that they have ever been. Normal content is engaging and enjoyable to play. The good stuff that DT has brought definitely makes up for the somewhat lacking story. And obviously we still have lots of patches down the road too.

Browsing through the forum here and watching Youtube videos I clearly see how people seem super unhappy with the new Expansion.
Playing the game for myself and also in my fc and social groups I did not experience that feedback for quite a while.
I never checked this froum in the past and just came here recently to look for the "community voice" but.. is it really that bad? Are people that mad about DT or was it always like that in the forum? Maybe someone that observed the forum for a few years can tell me.

I personally think DT is fine story wise.. sure it may not be peak epic but I feel like it is quite good. I was entertained especcially for the last part of it.

The content imo is great. It is more entertaining than in the past and we now even can wipe here and there, which is often funny. People are saying it is too hard but idk isnt it exciting to have a look at the boss while doing roulettes? (talking about dungeons)

For the raids it is kind of the same. I dont feel like they are particulary harder than - for example - ShB Normal Raids?

Are here any people that actually enjoy the game? And if not.. where are they? I've heard player counts are looking good, and I tbh can imagine why.

It makes me kind of sad hearing all that stuff about "dungeons too hard for me" "raids too easy for me" "story is bad" "bring back stormblood", I have the feeling people are more and more driven into the mindset "Well if everyone says it is bad.. then it must be bad!" until they actually feel that way.

It's better to just remain blissfully unaware of the sludge that live on the forums lol. The people playing the game are the ones enjoying it, so just stick to that really unless you're trying to see how entitled gamerbros really get. Though it would be welcome if you joined the few of us on here trying to make this place not so much of an echo chamber.

What a load of crap. Many people who come to air their grievances or offer criticism are some of the most enfranchised, passionate people that play the game. That's why they care.
What a double load of crap calling it an "echo chamber" when there's both great discussion on the lore or people writing multi-page essays explaining the fundamental flaws of the DT msq.
What a triple load of crap, ignoring that many people/threads praised some aspects of DT, like the NM raids or the expert dungeons and extreme trials.
We're so "entitled"- I paid for a game and complained about what I didn't like after giving it a fair chance and playing through all of it.
Get off your delusional high horse- or learn to actually read and address what 90% of critics are typing instead of this imaginary "gamerbro that doesn't play" is saying.
This is especially funny coming from someone who didn't even clear the extremes, I've literally played this expansion more than you.
So tired of this facetious crap people who want to defend multi-million SE and the preschooler story they came up with.

Edit: and, for good measure, since we're using anecdotal stories as evidence, if I get the level 100 trial on the roulette, I have always seen people (not one, many- and I've got this trial 6 times) either complain about the horrible EN VAing or the story when the infamous cutscene happens.

Social media (including this forum) has become the worst part of playing this game. (Doomerism is a general trend across all social media, not just with FF14.)

When I joined the game during ShB, the forum was still some fun with people talking about the game. At a certain point, it very rapidly degenerated into the current mirthless, bottomless well of whining and complaining.

I joined FFXIV during COVID as part of the WoW exodus. I have enjoyed the MSQ, even through EW. However, I found the story in DT to be way too many cutscenes and not enough action, which made it a bit boring at times. I have enjoined the DT dungeons, even though it seemed my ping was an issue with some of the bosses and the trials were strangely easier than the dungeons. Overall, I am enjoying DT.

I created an acc in this forum just this month so I dunno about the past posts here. I can tell you that've been playing for yrs and I never had the urge to create an acc here just to share my thoughts... until now. I created this acc solely so that I can share my disatisfaction with the expac, and to add my voice to the people that wants SE to do something about this dog water writing.

Dont be too sad about people airing their discontent. People are complaining cus they genuinely care about the game and want it to improve. I dont agree with some of the posts here like the content being too hard or whatever, I'm mainly here to complain about DT's writing but I just let them be.

I hate posts like this. You are disregarding the genuine concerns that alot of people here have just because people have less than stellar opinion about your perfect game. Atleast It shows that not all of the people that play the game are not brand loyalists that always say yes to what the company gives us no matter how dog shit it is. I enjoyed some aspects of the DT MSQ, but definitely more of a miss than a hit for me so far. I don't mind it if the WoL isn't the main character. Our character has spent plenty of time listening to leaders tell us what they are going to do and not giving an opinion either way (Nanamo for example). The issue is that in those expansions (ARR through StB) there was not one character we spent the majority of our time with other than maybe Alphinaud. Even all of the scions were not present in those expansions as they were doing their own things, hiding, etc.

I think the plot was good, but execution not so much. The quest design was pretty bad. I understand some don't like solo duties, but I see them as exposure to different jobs and enjoy them. I'd rather that than watching a movie.

Some have stated that everything Wuk Lamat is doing mirrors something the WoL has done in a previous expansion which is why they needed her to be the center. While I can see that, it would imply that Wuk and the WoL have the exact same values and I'm not seeing that necessarily.

I am enjoying the expert duties and the new raids with some great music.

While I did not enjoy the writing of this expansion I also try to remember YoshiP's comment that they will be looking at what questions we have after this and trying to fill in those gaps with the next expansions. I think if you do want to post more positive content on these boards, then asking people what they want to know more about in 8.0 is a good start. That goes for all the people who loved this expansion and are accusing those who did not of "doomerism" or some other nonsense. If you want to see something positive, make a post that looks toward the future instead of just the "I like this and anyone who doesn't is a poo poo head."

My hopes for the future are that Krile will get a bit more info in regards to her background (and how it may tie into the WoL's). We are obviously going to learn more about this chalice/hourglass key. I liked the story of Zero (unlike many seemed to) and hope that is something we revisit too.

Do you even know that you lose access to the forums if you don’t play the game? People writing here are all who still are playing the game, like it or not. The ones who quit - lost access.

I find this claim quite disingenuous. Starting from generalisation of “Japanese customers” and then claiming that SE didn’t care, while even in the article you linked it stated that they uploaded huge cutscenes playlist on YouTube, missing battle cutscenes, which in some cases made it difficult to follow, sure, but the attempt was made. The hero of the story who collected all of them is obviously a westerner in a western media outlet. But there are other accounts having YT video collections for story games in Japanese, it’s not smth only “westerners” do.

All it takes is one DMCA claim to youtube, and an entire video archive disappears. If you missed what I was saying, it's that Japanese companies destroy their games, and then try to keep it destroyed. I gave up trying to preserve english magia record game because the minute the english version was shutdown, every single video got blocked unless I muted the entire video. Videos that were up for months before. I suspect the same is/will be true of other youtuber's of other Japanese gacha games. They're going to wake up one day and find all their videos blocked globally.

Square Enix is one of the few Japanese companies who actually ALLOW you to stream their games, and allow you to post videos about it. But not very many youtubers follow the guidelines to the letter.
You are not permitted play any other music than what is in the game, in that place in the game.

Of course, if players actually followed Square Enix's policy to the letter, meme's from the Twinning would not exist and not loop back around to the 14 dev's meme'ing it live. The point of policies like this is to in fact, punish customers that are doing things they do not want happening. So there are plenty of people who like to do lore videos. But this policy would in fact forbid them from "re-creating 1.0" content to explore it for lore.

See where I'm going here? Square Enix, despite having rules against reverse engineering it's games, the only way to preserve a MMO is from people who are passionate enough to record the MMO throughout it's lifetime. All it takes is a change in management at Square Enix, and every video on youtube and niconico disappear. More Japanese companies SHOULD follow Square-Enix's example, release licenses explicitly allowing the players to preserve the game, even after it is shutdown, because that encourages people to still buy into newer games. If the games didn't have good stories, there would not be much incentive to try and preserve it.

And yes, it's mostly westerners who want to do this preservation. The people who went out of their way to buy every single console game to preserve them, have all been westerners.
