A small question about the Eden raids

I'm playing throughout shb again (on an alt) and couldn't help but notice that the Eden raids weren't a requirement to progress the MSQ ? If I'm not mistaken it was necessary to finish the first 4 floors to continue the story. Anyone knows when this was changed ?

Cause now I have Urianger and Thancred hanging out in the empty even though I sent them back to the source lmao.

The Eden raids were not a requirement to finish the MSQ, but they do take place immediately following 5.0, before we sent the Scions home.

Eden is not required to finish the MSQ. You'll just run into a bit of a weird spot where Thancred and Urianger are still hanging around despite also being back on the Source, because it was all written on the assumption that players would be running it alongside the main story.

Bonus if you never bothered unlocking the ARR extreme primals or the Binding Coil and Urianger is also still hanging out at the Waking Sands in his old outfit.

It's the typical Timebubble thing.

Certain events or content only happens during a specific time in the MSQ.

While the Raids like Omega, or the Alliance Raids like Ivalice/VoidArk aren't mandatory. it is assumed to occur during a specific time.

While Things like Crystal Tower, and Eden occur at specific points in the story.

(So if you did Eden after Shb, technically it occurred before 5.3, and the latter half occurs after 5.3 timeline wise. And before Crystal Tower Was mandatory. it was more of a leeway, since it didn't need to occur at any set time, as long as you are alive.)

Tldr if explained badly.

Everything in the game has a, more or less "timeline" in which it occurred lore wise.
(Some don't really matter when it "occured" just that it did. Others became mandatory to progress.)

While Eden has not been forced to completed prior to patch 5.3, any references can exist if you did complete it in later content.

Just like in certaint side quests can have requirements of content in previous expansions.

The game assumes you completed side content like Raids when it comes to the story.

Which is why I always recommend completing an expansion's Raid Series before moving on or else you get to that point in Endwalker where certain people show up and you're like "WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE!?"

tbh I think all of the 8 and 24 man raids should be mandatory for MSQ progression, not only because some like Eden are actually vital to the story, but because they can also actually use the characters that show up in these raids in the story outside of cameos, AND because since crystal tower is still the only mandatory raid series, crystal tower raids STILL occupy the grand majority of raids you get in alliance roulette, even with the ilvl cheese gone
