yes? If IGN claimed final fantasy xiv 2.0 was now a game about kittens, you think it makes sense for SE to just let a million+ people ignore ffxiv because of what ign posted?

If it hurts your product it is your responsibility to try to fix it.

Just like when that one website posted that the new FF was cancelled, SE should have responded immediately.

It's not their responsibility to scour the seeping black pit of the internet to correct authors who probably wouldn't even take it to heart, especially on sites like IGN. It would be a complete waste of resources. Sites like that are generally bought off to give games good reviews. You don't pay? Screw your game.

In this case, they are doing right by showing off pieces of 2.0 as they become finalized at live events that people attend physically, where there is no middle-man to thrust his biased opinion in every orifice he can.

So basically ignore the majority of potential customers and hope magic faeries bring them to the website?
Why even market a product. People will find out when the moogles appear in their room at night and tell them about it.
    Who needs marketing!

It's cute how you think IGN constitutes a "majority" of potential customers.

Given that it is the biggest gaming-news website, its a logical assumption.
I mean when you get 20million+ visitors a month, there's a good chance a lot of them are reading the incorrect info about FFXIV on the main page.
And once someone kind of shrugs a game off, they don't tend to open future articles about that game.

This is all you need to know when Final Fantasy 11 was released it was bad...they added an expansion and it was amazing.

When Final Fantasy 14 was released to many it was bad...they redoing it with more and stuff that should have been there...it's been like a year the content currently out is equivalent to an expansion...plus we get the revamped systems of 2.0 with a lot of extra stuff that isn't there now...whatever you call it it's a great game.

To the community at large that won't play it it's their loss. The player base is PS3 anyways...THE GAME IS NOT OUT ON PS3...Final Fantasy players are CONSOLE players not PC Players...that is all...give this post a rest this post is silly...SE is doing fine with the marketing...if you wanna wait till there are reviews before playing a game then wait...for us who are already here...we'll continue playing...the rest of you whiners can just keep whining...YAWN

if this is true, there should not be negative comments on the FXIV:ARR trailer article.

People will read news regardless they assume it good or not. If FF XIV:ARR is good, it will bring customers. What SE need is people keep talking on FFXIV:ARR, regardless of its past. SE have Gamescom as trump card.

As far as writing goes no they're not Eurogamer nor Edge but the sheer volume of readers they have is completely unparalled.
Let's not get sidetracked here since IGN is definitely not the only place that doesn't know what 2.0 is.

I hope SE's marketing is already reacting to how majority of the press responded to the trailer and acting on it.

In fact they sort of already are since gamescon will show gameplay and isn't that what everybody wanted?!

Now the ball is in dev teams court and we will see if the new game speaks for itself or not.

I agree with this. Plus by showing a gameplay trailer you are basically telling people you "changed the game"

Kotaku is similarly bad too. I think SE just need to be clear that this is a new game. They've built it from the ground up and they're not doing the game justice by implying it's a simple expansion pack.

It may be another case of being lost in translation, the Japanese media sites don't seem to have similar issues.
