    Feedback on FATEs

They suck. They've always sucked. Been playing GW2 during Endwalker.

    Here are some thoughts.

Problem : The thought of pressing my two aoe gcds mindlessly on repeat until the fate dies, then flying off to do it again for hours makes me nauseous. Trash pulls have never been a strong suit of FFXIV (Criterion aside), it's insane that they're the majority of open-world content.

Solution : Limit trash FATEs to precursors to give people time to arrive at the FATE before a boss FATE spawns.

Problem : The bosses are striking dummies.

Solution : Reuse old dungeon bosses, alliance raid bosses, A ranks, S ranks for anything less than the two world bosses we get per expansion.

Problem : There's very little feeling of control or choice, it's just flying around wherever we get told to.

Solution : No FATEs should spawn randomly, make us spawn them all like S ranks to give intentionality and reasons for groups to split up and do things in different parts of the map. Add a menu that tells us the spawning conditions after we complete a FATE chain in an area.

Problem : The maps are pointless.

Solution : Delete flying from the game, make open world mobs beefy and chase you down further. If you get more than two aggroed, you should be afraid you'll die.

Problem : No one runs them after a while, even after bisexual rocks were added.

    Solution : Lootboxes. RNG.

Problem : Level syncing sucks butt. It's annoying, inconvenient, running out of the arena resets it, it's just bad.

Solution : Automatically sync item level (not job level within an expansion cap) when you enter the FATE area.

TL;DR : Make the open world Eureka. Unless there are technical limitations, I don't understand why this isn't in place already.

And here I thought I got away from posts like this when I left the WoW forum...

Eureka has both of these, Bozja has both of these, GW2 has one of these (both until recently), and all of those open worlds are active and fun. Just saying.

    No.
There is nothing fun about what you're mentioning, it'd be fun for 5 minutes, and then it'd get old really quick, WoW tried this as well and had to put it back in the game because it was basically a fiasco, the same would happen to FFXIV but probably to an even bigger extent as a lot of FFXIV players are purely casual players.

It's Eureka and it's been fun and active for the last seven(?) years straight.

Congrats, go to Eureka, Bozja, or GW2, and leave the rest of the game out of it.

You say this as if these are fun because of those two things and I'm gonna say that is absolutely not the case. Never have I thought to myself "oh boy I want to go farm some lootboxes from Eureka!" because who does? I remember when the Pagos set cost over 100k per piece on the marketboard because no one enjoyed doing Pagos, this was at the start of Shadowbringers. No one considers the lootboxes in regards to their enjoyment of this content.

A lot of people go back and do bunnies a lot? It's pretty popular.

And no, no one considers lootboxes a facet of enjoyment, but it is a carrot. When I finish doing a Meta in GW2 I'm not like "Oh boy! Unidentifieds!!! Ectoplasm!", but it's a reason to go do them. Mostly bisexual rock mats, rare drop of the collectibles already on offer. I'm actually surprised this part in particular has gotten such a negative reaction.

and how many of those "a lot of people" are actually people and not bots?

A lot? I'm not sure anyone can give you exact numbers, but I would see real people talking in there, doing bunnies, all the time in Endwalker.

It's botted too, for sure, but that's kind of a widespread SE issue. There's no reason a lootbox in addition to a bisexual rock would change how enticing FATEs are to bots.
