There's a reason I'm not engaging with them. They are trolls. Notice they claim to have read the story, and yet completely ignore what I have actually said. No where did I claim the MSQ was the problem in association with this, or that the devs did this on purpose. I laid the blame squarely on the Localizers who's job it is to not allow accidents like this to happen in any forum of media.

Man, should they change something for you specifically ? You sound like that other OP that wants a title deleted cause it sounds bad to them.
Grand news, you're not alone in this game, it's an MMO.

And I remember seeing that attack on TV and yes it was tragic but you can't put the blame on a team that probably never thought of that to begin with.

You're self centered and need a reality check. Nobody cares.

I don't understand what there is to be upset about. It's simply a set of numbers. It doesn't have any relevance to the event of September 11th. I was old enough to understand what had happened. I remember the uncensored footage from news channels literally showing people jumping to their deaths so they wouldn't die in flames. And I remember the phone called hours later notifying my family my aunt was missing. And almost 4 days later her body being found. Seeing 9-11 doesn't upset me, even though I have a bad memory of that day.

OP you're looking to be angered by something, and it's silly.

    Spoiler

https://imgur.com/a/rw3TsRo It even has two towers. Seriously.

You pay all that money for a localization team, and they can't be bothered to do their actual job. Oh, but you better believe their gonna get their amateur friend that can't actually voice act to be in the starring role.

Edit: I tried to put a picture in HB, and it didn't work. Don't want to spoil things for anyone that cares about it.
I can almost guarantee you that this has nothing to do with the localisation team lmao.

Because it's the exact same in Japanese. This is not intended to be a 9/11 reference, nor is the Yyasulani or Alexandria regions intended to be modelled after New York. We already got our US knock-off in Shaaloani.

Not to mention, this is in Solution Nine -- implying there are 8 other Solutions that came before it. There are also 11 floors in Everkeep, not including Living Memory, as it never actually made it to the Source. Nobody brings up the fact that Solution Nine is on what is probably the Ninth of Eleven floors.

So yeah. Literally read this as you'd read the in-game housing. Residential District 9 Ward 11 and Residential District 9 Ward 14.

It'd be something else if we had a terrorist attack in-game that just happened to involve those buildings, but the closest we got is a literal Star Wars "Execute Order 66" moment, that to my knowledge doesn't actually involve fighting near those buildings at all.

Localization should always be as close as possible to the original text and nothing that's not even mentioned in the original should be there at all, so if that doesnt hit well with the fanbase, they can actually tell the writer that what they wrote was weak,
Couldn't disagree more. Yeah sure. Some humor may fall flat. But if the scene was intended to be humoristic in the original Japanese, then translating that joke word for word sure isn't gonna have the intended effect in English.

Completely unsurprising that this sentiment comes from a server where you can assume the user is monolingual and be right 9/10 times.

Translations often fall flat if they're as close as possible to the original text.

Translate the intended meaning and feeling of the text, not the literal words, or you're gonna end up with just straight-up weird sounding sentences like: "There's no cow on the ice" (a Danish idiom, translated literally). And overall, most localizers actually tend to get this right.

I'm sorry, but you cannot take that work and compare them literally. The issue you're complaining about is solveable with more communication between author and translator, though. Something that's thankfully, from what I'm gleaning, starting to become more common.

How is it that everytime I see this argument, it's made by someone I can assume doesn't speak any other language than English? Genuinely learn a second language or watch some basic ass Tom Scott language files if the Duolingo owl doesn't cut it.

    Yeah, this.

I used to be a translator that also kind of dabbled in interpreting. There are phrases, figures of speech, jokes, words, and feelings that just do not translate well at all. Whether it's a concept that we just don't have a specific word for, a reference that relies on understanding the culture/history of the original text/speaker, or a clever play on words that doesn't line up well when it's translated. Sometimes "as close as possible" needs to be doctored up pretty heavily in order for a non-native to actually understand the entirety of what's being conveyed. Especially when it comes to things like humor and creative writing which are so often heavily colored by language, culture, and upbringing.
