I find challenge within myself, I want to surpass myself and do better each time, and it works, I am getting better and better at the game! I even get compliments on it sometimes.
Mechanics mostly happen during bosses, and this is what people are praising about Dawntrail: Boss mechanics are more engaging and demand you pay attention now. ^^''
There's value for me in making everyone's run smooth and enjoyable. Of course, if you don't like the content and can't find something for you in it, no one is forcing you to do it. >//<
It's not that they hate dungeons, like, dungeons used to have mechanics like that, and things like patrols and such in ARR, and I feel like they stopped doing that because of player feedback.
You can still see that in Aurum Vale, you can avoid a lot of mobs if you're clever and watch for patrols. And also, what budget they don't put in dungeon design, they can put elsewhere lol.
They might have overdone standardizing them, but I don't mind dungeon design myself, like I said, I find challenge within myself.
There's also value in having expectations and knowing things about a dungeon you haven't even done before.

I do wanna say though, they did shake things up even in pulls. It happens during fights, which may not have value to you, but there's an extremely brutal pull in vanguard that kinda defies expectations,
especially since the number of enemies is so small ? Like, the pull with the lightning birbs. There's another interesting pull in tender valley, where enemies react to what you do to them feels like ?
I think they pulse an AOE when they get hit, and on my viper, I often have to slow down to let the healer catch up. I haven't saw things that have you adjust like that in a dungeon for a while.
Strayborough also has this "Surprise! Collapsing building in your face" pull too lol.

Because the boss fights are leaps and bounds above everything we've had recently.

There are even a couple trash packs with Actual Mechanics. They're *simple*, but they're there!

I have to say that I'm really enjoying the difficulty they've given to Dawntrail. To be honest, we're at lv 100 now. Things should be more challenging and quite frankly, I've fallen asleep during EW dungeons as a healer main. This is a step in the right direction.
