Absolute, nostalgic, art.

Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains: groundbreaking artists that the 90s should be proud of.
Those bands took music a step forward, they gave the world something new to experience, something we'd never seen or heard before.
FFXI, like WoW, GTA, Mario, Zelda and Metal gear; they all did the same. Groundbreaking stuff.
They created a truly new gaming experience in a newly emerging industry.
It's hard to do that again; to create something wondrous. Unless of course you rewrite the rules of how things are done.
1.0 didn't do that. It just didn't make everyone go, "wow, what the hell is this, I have to tell my friends...now".
Let's hope 2.0 does that, if that's what you mean?
Let's be wide eyed again.

To tell the truth, FFXIV did exactly that in 1.0.
It made everyone go "what the hell is this" and it broke quite a few 'rules' to bring us a completely new experience.
Problem is..people didn't like Tanaka's extremly realistic approach (me neither) because it was too complicated and rather work than fun to most players.

Yes mate you're right. To tell the truth, FFXIV did exactly that in 1.0.

Problem is..people didn't like Tanaka's extremly realistic approach (me neither) because it was too complicated and rather work than fun to most players.
They tried to break the 'rules' and change the playing field, but they broke many of the ff conventions that the fanbase liked, also adding some rubbish ones into the mix too under the guise of a 'fresh new approach'.
A new approach, that sucked camel nuts.
Still, 2.0 will be an eye opener, I'm sure!
Fingers, toes and other things crossed.

As I was reading your post Rudy, I couldn't help but feel nostalgic.
I can see where your coming from. It's a bit difficult to put those feelings into words, isn't it?
Ah well, good read Rudy. Good read. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
