lol what? When did I every say anything about quitting? I know it sucks to be called out for a wrong answer but that is no reason to start putting words in others mouths.
Exactly, if it wasn't for us FFXIV probably wouldn't be near 2.0 or even have it at all. I do feel like we should get Priority Yes, but I also think of the Well-being of FFXIV's Lifespan.. If I just think of my self and Fellow Legacy members it probably wouldn't end well for FFXIV in the long run.
However, Yoshi-P said that they are working to get people who are currently playing FFXIV in the Beta ( which most of them are Legacy related players). So I won't worry too much.
SE isnt dumb, they obviously know the value of prioritizing members that stuck around as well as how important it is to get new players in as well. Its not like they are gonna only give out a small amount of invites for Beta, aplha probably so but beta I think is gonna be much more open than normal ones.
I agree that this Beta will be Different than others, so there should be more players going into Closed beta than a Normal Closed beta ( but still not to the level of Open).SE isnt dumb, they obviously know the value of prioritizing members that stuck around as well as how important it is to get new players in as well. I just wanna chime in and say that I claim any and all credit for Chocobo Caravan being in the game.
Yes I want a beta key.
it's not we can't provide 'adequate' feed back. it's that feedback is more biased.well of course they will take part but I damn well better get priority. I didnt stick through from the start through all the crap just to be crapped on some more. I think it is pretty sad all the "those who stuck around cant provide feedback adequately" talk. If it wasnt for us the game probably would have just cancelled and it wouldn't be in a playable state. The so called "inadequate" feedback is what has kept this game going and moving into 2.0.
in the first beta, there were essentially three types of posters on the feedback forums.
1) people that loved and raved about the game and said there was nothing wrong with it. (IE: delusional, see the world through rose colored glasses)
2) people who saw the problems. talked about them. and said 'the game is not yet ready. delay release by at least 3 months to fix it'
3) people who recognized the problems and said 'it will be fine at launch, they can patch later. go ahead and release.'
persons 1 and 3 are the type that 'stuck to it' and quite frankly the feedback they provided was not what the game needed.
you need the people that won't stick to a crap game to provide true constructive feedback.
it wasn't the 'inadequate feedback' that kept the game going. is was the fact they kept playing even though the game was total garbage.
The real feedback that was used to fix the game was gathered early on. BEFORE the people that quit quit.
1) the UI was crap
2) the engine was inefficient and crappy
3) not enough content
those are the three things that kept the game from being successful. they are still the three things keeping the game from being successful. the rest of the feedback is just stuff we want to have. not the stuff that is really needed.
when I see people say "I Deserve Beta access! i've played since the original 1.0 beta!" what i understand is "I'm a fanboy! give me stuff because I love you unconditionally!"
and I can't agree with that. the people that are most valuable in a beta are people that understand tech, can help troubleshoot bugs, and provide constructive feed back. Not people who have played since the original beta. you can make that one of many priorities. but to make that the number one priority is ridiculous.
Now i can agree with you. I imagine there will be a beta sign-up much like there was for 1.0. Based on the specs of my machines, technical knowledge, Japanese language minor, my beta test history, and legacy status I will likely get in. but nothing is guaranteed. And i certainly don't feel entitled to a slot.Well, thats how I "feel" but I don't need to be in Beta, the people that been here since day 1 never gave up on the game stuck with it through its hardest of times. ( This is what I Originally thought).
(After seeing the Comments) I realized that in order for the games Success other people that haven't played in FFXIV yet and people that quit show take part in it too, so when they see how Potentially A Realm Reborn is, they can Word of Mouth all of that to there friends and online companions to increase the population of FFXIV: A Realm Reborn. ( This is the Most Realistic Answer to me).
I know we will all be in 2.0 Beta at some point and Enjoying 2.0 Launch so that enough should be enough for me.
Edit: However if I happen to get into the Beta I won't complain I'll be enjoying it. If not, I'll just see the Reviews of the Beta! .
If i get one. YAY! and i'll provide feedback as I can. I will hope my voice is heard. but i understand that what i want isn't what everyone wants. I will restrict the bulk of my feedback to what i think the game really needs (UI, engine, usability) and will throw in content when I can. (Mounted combat! a 'founders' pack or a relaunch CE with awesome goodies!)
There where plenty of people that thought "2) people who saw the problems. talked about them. and said 'the game is not yet ready. delay release by at least 3 months to fix it'" that still stuck with the game and continued to make suggestions to try and get the game into a working playable state most the people that stuck with the game and use these forums to express their concerns and suggestions are exactly those people.
So you think nobody should have stuck around? even though the game was in a crap state? If that never happened where would the game be now? My guess is cancelled.
I don't think there will be a beta for PC only PS3. Copy paste off road map

You could be quite right based off the road map but I think Yoshi mentioned there will be a PC beta in an interview, I could be mistaken though.I don't think there will be a beta for PC only PS3. Copy paste off road map

There will be a PC beta rofl. If there isn't, the game is in trouble.
Yoshida stated in multiple places that the betas will happen between September and October when the 1.x servers finally go offline forever for the sake of moving character data. At this point, there will be a PC beta(s) that will eventually lead to the game's release in late winter 2012 / early 2013. PS3 beta would come along sometime after.
So.. yes, there will definitely be a PC beta.
I don't know why they just don't upgrade all the servers to beta. hell we've been playing a beta for the last 2 years..whats two more months.
