I think they need a wide variety of players for beta to give realistic feedback for what actual MMO players think of the game.

I do agree that people with the mentally of " Praise the game nothing is wrong " will do nothing but hurt the game. However the game itself isn't the problem though.. its Bugs that causes things to happen like back in 2010, where it took like 10 secs for 1 action to go. That's something we don't want to see happen again. but Realistically speaking, SE will probably either:
A) Hold a Contest to hand out Closed Beta Keys
B) Let every try it out but set a time limit for the Legacy and other players to try out.
All a Beta Tester really needs is a Few hours to get a Feel for what's going on around him, jot down what he notices to be a problem, after all that Submit the bugs to however SE will be receiving Bug information.
If they do it that way and let everyone try it for a fixed amount of time ( During Closed beta only),everyone will get a chance weather it be a person who thinks the game is good enough as it is and just wants to filly dally around the game's Beta, to a person who actually wants the game to succeed and give all Bug information he/she see's to SE.
But knowing Beta's Closed Betas are Generally not that open to the Public so my Bet is on Option A.
My OP was based on my feelings.. not what reality will most likely be.

Meh. I've done tons and tons of betas over the years, even Alpha for 1.0. I've since started avoiding them. Until there are no wipes and our character data is permanent, I probably won't bother. I'd rather wait so I don't have to do the same starter zone/quests/areas over and over again because of wipes and changes. Kind of ruins the enjoyment of it and you can get burned out pretty easily.
Hopefully sending bug reports actually does something. In Alpha they were mostly lalalalala ignored.
Relax, Starlord.
LinkGE: Do you have any ideas yet on how will people get into beta?
Yoshida: We decided not to tie it directly to the legacy campaign, but we want to prioritize getting the current players that are playing now into beta.
Look, Yoshi understands that not all Legacy players are the ones that are going to be invited to beta, but they're taking the fact that you are playing NOW into consideration. Priority consideration. I'm sure when more information comes out, you'll find your worries were nothing.
EDIT: Also, people are aren't eligible for Legacy but who are playing now will have a priority chance to get into Beta as well. I can imagine that this opportunity will get new and returning players who didn't qualify for Legacy to stay on into 2.0

Legacy already has more than a fair amount of bonuses. Asking for preferential treatment in regards to the 2.0 Beta is getting greedy. Especially considering how much Legacy players will have over their basic account peers.

honestly I would like to be in beta... but as a ps3 player... because I want to test it out on my machine. however if I don't get into beta I'm not going to QQ because i didn't get in and i think I should be in it, because of how long I played. I've overly thrilled with what they're giving us as it is. I don't believe that We all should be in it but it would be nice. I won't demand it though
I have a secret to tell. From my electrical well. It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells. So the room must listen to me Filibuster vigilantly. I love beta testing and I'd be especially happy if I got into FFXIV's 2.0 beta.
But I'm well aware a lot of feedback from other people is needed so it would hurt 2.0 if only current players get to play in the beta.
Some of us might be biased and even those who aren't won't notice inconveniences they got used to over the course of months.
Same with feedback now, I have quite a few things to complain about but I no longer notice some substantial problems because I got used to them.
Like having to open an extra map to see where I have to go for my quest - if some people who recently joined didn't complain about it I wouldn't even have noticed how inconvenient it is!
Stuff like this happens to all of us therefore 2.0 will be better if people who know nothing of this game try out beta and notice things which still need to be changed.

I agree with this, but I also understand where the OP is coming from. I do think it's for the good of the game to let other players, who aren't legacy members, into the closed beta. As the person I quoted said, there may be inconveniences that we are used to, that are actually problems, but we don't notice it anymore.
In the end, it is good for the game to get new perspective from beta testers. I for one will not be in the beta, as I want to keep things fresh. I'll probably play another game.

We need feed back from both Legacy and non Legacy-players but the most feed back SE should get is people who never played a FF online mmo before.

I can not 'like' or agree with these two posts enough. The last thing that this game needs to is to listen to only this community during beta.
For legacy players... Beta or not you're going to play the game. You're part of a very small minority of MMO players that will eat shit and enjoy it. They need people who cast this game off after launch to tell them whats wrong in 2.0. Not you.
