Think about any FF game before X.
The games were perfectly clear on where to go but also allowing you to do and find those things at your own pace.

If the areas have good landmarks then they should be enough for the NPCs to give directions.

What I found really weird is that farming quest have instanced mobs...

I mean really?! You can't just tell us what kinds of mobs to kill because the same drop could be obtained from other mobs or in a variety of locations with different diffyculty settings?
No the object you have to farm is instanced in one spot just waiting for you like a sacrafice from SE.
Maybe it's just me but there's something about the quests that makes them seem like they weren't implemented to add variety to gameplay. They're not different challenges since they're all copies of leves. They don't add story or characters to the game. When you're clicking through the flavor text and heading for the red dot to slaughter 15 non-challenging static mobs at least to me it feels like I'm just being led along on a treadmill.

I always wanted XIV to have quests and I still like that there will be bigger emphasis on them in 2.0 but I really hope SE sets their goals a lot higher when it comes to quest presentation and design.
Especially when it comes to variety. Removing this superficial quest cap would be a good place to start so they could implement longer quests too. I can play for just 5min sometimes but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate quests that take weeks/months to complete.

Only good thing about this thread, right here.

Except, shooting Snurbles at a distance just doesn't have the same personal feeling of vindication compared to a physical instrument.

To this end, I recommend Snurble Jousting as the official Eorzian sport!

Some people love the sound of their own voice, others love the look of their own text (or something like that).

FFX was a game on rails. DQ Swords was even moreso. The options to stray off the path were nil. XIV seems far from that. This is a nonissue.

"making sure players know where to go and what activities are there to do once they enter a new map."
    Newest info about this:
What are your thoughts on how much party play is required?
Y: For content we have stuff for parties and solo. Also there are public contents which is in between. Basically it’s OK to think that the stuff that shows up in content finder are for parties, others are for solo play. Also when you login or change areas we have it where it shows recommendations of what you should try out.

Is that decided on players situation?
Y: It will display a list of contents depending on the considering the congestion of the content. For those players oriented to party play, party based content will be displayed

So that’s kind of system will be prepared.
Y: In MMORPG there are lots of stuff you can do so at around level 20 you will feel like you don’t know what to do. Would like to use this in those type of situations. Also the 10 contents will show up in the list and by playing all of them it will be about 2 hours.

Interesting article about quest hubs and how everyone apparently hates them now:

Upon reflection, maybe wasn't such a good idea for SE to take that route?

Upon utter reflection, guild wars public quests are static quest hub you spam until need an highter level quest.
Also, 2.0 will have public quests too

Yea, while playing right now, it doesn't feel like it is any different. You usually stay at the same area for a while until you level. Then you get 80 and the only events you do is that cycle of 7 or 8 in the 70-75 area over and over again. It's nothing great.
