Some housing items should be available easier

How do items like Horizontal / Vertical Neon Wall Light and Stone Partition end up as random rewards from level 100 retainer ventures? The items might as well not even exist because of how long it takes to design something that requires a handfull of them.

How am I supposed to make a single room with Stone Partitions? Even with an unlimited amount of Gil, there is currently only 2 partitions in the entirety of Europe on the market boards, selling for 10 and 20 million. The supply is way too low and this is by design, because someone in charge of housing items decided it was a good idea to gate those behind retainer ventures, instead of having them easily available from the very start.

Neon Wall Lights could be a random dungeon drop from Vanguard. It fits the theme and everything.

I don't mind having vanity items gated behind retainers or submarines, i.e. plushies. But items that are required in bulk to design something? This is a trend I strongly dislike and it has been going on for some time now.

What even is the game design philosophy behind this? Is this supposed to be a Gil sink? Or a grind? Or an incentive to buy more retainers to increase chances of success? Or a legal way to convert RL-money into Gil? I don't know what it is supposed to be. But I can say what it IS: a disheartening practice to the detriment of housing enthusiasts, that I wish wasn't there.

Of course, some time in the future, items will be obtainable through other means. Why not start there in the first place?

I have no idea if this even reaches the devs or not. But at least I can hope.

It is entirely an incentive to do otherwise unpopular content from the game. It's not unique to retainers either, Eureka has unique furniture, old savages have unique furniture. Like you I'm annoyed the system works this way, but if it didn't then who's to say that part of content wouldn't die? A lot of people I know don't bother with ventures and just use retainers for storage, but having items locked behind leveling it encourages players to use them to their full extent and rewards them for doing so.

I am perfectly fine with housing items being gated behind content like retainer ventures, submarines, Eureka or Alexander. You missed my point though.
I am calling out items being badly accessible that you require in bulk to do things. Meaning multiples. Lots of.

How am I supposed to build a room with Stone Partitions, if a single partition is only accessible through 18 hour ventures IF I get lucky? To make a single room I need say... 10 of those? Probably more, depending on size, but you get the idea.
The same goes for Neon Wall Lights. There is no way a single one is enough. Even to illuminate an apartment or a small house I would still need many.

These items are so inaccessible, that I cannot use them anywhere because of the amount required.

Hence I'm pleading to restrict incentivising items to vanity things like plushies or weapon stands, if the content they insentivise cannot be reasonably farmed.

At this early point in the expansion, give it some time. Maybe they're about to be the next Stuffed Bom Boko and the few for sale now are just coming from the first few people who actually bothered levelling their retainers to 100.

people don't bother with ventures because it is completly unclear what a retainer can bring back or what is even available from ventures.

This is exactly what is going to happen, but only after they are made available somewhere else - which is exactly my point. They should be made available elsewhere to begin with, because building something with Stone Partitions requires tons of them, and there will never be tons of them if they stay gated the way they are now.

Again: I have no issues with items being gated like this. I only have issues with the KIND of item they are using for this purpose. If items that are required in bulk cannot be obtained in bulk, they might as well not be implemented at all until they become more accessible. It is a bad practice, and they clearly do not have housing enthusiasts in mind when deciding to place them where they did.

If it’s any consolation, the neon lights are not my style at all, so I’ll be throwing any I get on the market board immediately. The stone partitions I’ll keep and try to save up enough to do something with. I suspect that will be the case for most people: they’ll keep the one that fits their style and sell the other.

Are these from the 18 hour level 100 ventures? At least they didn’t throw them in the quick ventures, so the loot pool isn’t as large. I’m with you though, I’d like to see another way to get them. But with any luck the drop rate won’t be absolutely horrible. When they put the Flagstone lofts and steps in the submarine loot, it was frustrating for awhile. Now the market board is flooded with them, as they only cost about 20k instead of their original millions!

People have claimed Neon Wall Lighs are from the 18 hour level 100 retainer ventures, and can also drop from level 90 treasure maps (not sure if both are true, because the only 'evidence' I found were comments on Eorzea Database). Could be level 100 treasure maps too - I have yet to find one myself, so I only have comments as a source. But it has to be one of those three or a combination of them. Kind of proves my point though. An item so rare, databases have no aquisition data a couple of weeks after release >.<.

Stone Partitions are definitely from 18 hour ventures though. I saw a Japanese screenshot of someone getting a partition from those.

I came to the forums to see if there's anyone discussing this. I share the OP's frustration.

Neon lights definitely come from the level 100 18 hour ventures, DoW/DoM only. Stone Partitions I thought were from submarine missions? Maybe they're from both though.

I'm on a new world and there have been ZERO of these on our MB, I've had two retainers running the proper expeditions and have not received any of them. On other worlds on Dynamis the Neon Wall Lights are going for millions of gil, despite really needing at least a few for any logical usage, and as far as I know there has NEVER been a Stone Partition on our MBs. It's punishing new worlds and anyone without a ton of gil, when there's ALREADY gil sinks in the game (large houses, various mounts, etc).

And for the most part the people already doing ventures are the ones doing ventures for this: you need a leveled up battle retainer, you need to KNOW that these things come from ventures (meaning you looked them up separately), etc. And most people into housing are probably running ventures at least some times for some of the older ones that have rare mat drops for expensive housing items. And I sincerely doubt ventures are THAT unpopular that they needed to do this and the extremely low drop rates make it likely most people would give up, anyway.

I mean, I NEVER get the housing dungeon drops, I've run some of the dungeons so many times I can barely stand to look at them, but at least then they'd be on my MB's for semi-affordable prices.
