SF2 had different iterations because they were capitalizing on their game design and engine, something they still do today. They made bank first releasing the bosses a playable characters, then the New Challengers, and then one last hurrah with Hyper Turbo. They released 4 iterations because it made them money reselling the game with just a few new perks each time. It had little to do with feedback. What were people doing back then? Sending them letters?
Those iterations were a result of feedback. People liked the game and engine and wanted more. And yes, people sent letters but there were plenty of events the designers would go to and actually talk to the attendees. They even had them occasionally in the US.

Putting fighers in the game that you didn't let people play, and then later selling a whole new version where you get to use them, is pretty simple. How much feedback do you think they needed with such a business plan?
Feedback pre-internet was nothign like it is today, and they certainly didn't release 100s of versions as you claimed based on specific feedback from any individual. Really basic like "more fighters = good" is just basic business sense. And sales numbers were the feedback that people were having fun.
I also never met a single person that figured out writing a letter to a game developer in the early 90s over balancing or the minute arguments we have here.

That wouldn't be true for an mmo where people have invested years into their warrior of light by collecting mounts, achievrments, relics and minions.
I think not all jobs should be complex, but some jobs must stand out. For options.
im havin lots of fun i love final fantasy

try other mmos like wow, gw2, etc.
Hopefully they will fill the hole while you wait for 8.0. I haven't really played the game hardcore since SB so im only interested in the casual content and midcore content now. Job design is very bad so im on a similar boat.
Also lmao yet again proven right that this community is fake nice, the second someone voices they're upset with the game they say you don't matter and belittle you. Imagine acting as if someone doesn't like the game you like is a personal attack lmao, go outside.
You are talking to the void, the developers do not read english general.

OP you have better luck with Reddit than the official forums in terms of feedback.
Good luck criticizing xiv on reddit. You'll get down voted within the first few minutes. Square will ignore anything not on the main page of the subreddit. Square enix only cares about praise and art in social media. You have to get creative and hire an artist to explain the bad state of job/role and encounter design for them to even consider it.

But... What's this need to tell everyone? Are you some kind of idol that everyone knows?Hello, all.
My sub ends tomorrow, so I believe this will be my last message for a while--maybe until 8.0. I have not touched a single minute of Dawntrail's story, its dungeons, or its content. Yet it's not because I'm burnt out of FFXIV. On the contrary, I have a very strong urge to play through Dawntrail's content, but what I have absolutely no drive to do whatsoever is put up with Endwalker job design any longer. It's a weird feeling, having both a constant urge to want to play the game and yet dreading the idea of actually playing the game. I want to explore the Story. I refuse to put up with Dosis spam. I want to try Arcadion. I am burnt out of DPS jobs. I want to see the upcoming field operations. I have no interest in trying tank jobs. I feel torn to say the least.
I'll get to the point. I love FFXIV, but I hate Endwalker PVE job design. I would play through the story as PVP Sage if I could, but I can't, and there's not a single PVE job that I want to touch with a 10 foot pole. Yoshi P, if you truly want FFXIV to be a game for everyone, do better.
Because this ongoing hyper simplified job design has alienated not just me, but many others who have also resigned and left the game. There has to be a better middle ground that's still approachable but doesn't exclude the players who want to engage with job design. Don't wait for 8.0 to make changes. Just waiting for 8.0 to address these issues is cutting corners when there are things you could do now to make job design more enjoyable without sweeping reworks.
Make healers more enjoyable now. Leave Viper alone for the players who enjoy its complexity. Restore nonstandard gameplay aspects to Black Mage and other jobs as well. There is a healthy middle ground you can achieve with job design, and this is clearly not it. Goodbye for now everyone, I hope all of you are able to find enjoyment in the jobs even if I cannot and enjoy what Dawntrail has in store. I sincerely hope I can return sooner rather than later.
I don't even know your name.
You'll post when you get back, right? Promise!?

Still Useless... To have so many Commendations in 2024

Then let me elucidate you.
Ty is one of the most outspoken ex-healer player here in this forum. His contributions to the discussion around the absolute state of healers has been invaluable. His polls and job rework ideas are a great example.
You clearly don't care, but anyone paying half attention to the healer sub-forums would know about Ty.
I'm sad to see you go, thank you for everything you've done so far.
I also think I understand this inner conflict you have. I can imagine if you get attached to a job and its overall aesthetics and feel, it might be painful to turncoat and swap jobs whenever the devs decide to gut it next expansion/major patch (or keep them in a trashy state, like healers).
I never got too attached to any of them, so I feel I have some resistance to this sort of BS.
Here's to a future where we can happily play the healer role again and thoroughly enjoy doing so.
Good luck out there.

I support the #FFXIVHEALERSTRIKE
Dawntrail is doing too little too late for healers. We've put up with half a decade of agonizingly dull gameplay, and now we'll have to wait two more years for a possible fix. There's plenty of time to improve the healing role before then, so please don’t let us down again, CU3!
