Is it bad (or good?) that I'm enjoying this side story way more than the 1st half of the Dawntrail MSQ?

It looks like a simple story but it's well put together, with likeable characters and a great setting. Cherry on top of the cake of well designed bosses! It's been quite a while since I got to see wipes on day 1 normal modes.

Can't wait for the rest. A shame that's just like 6 or so months from now.

The oldtaku in me wished I'd level MNK for the tournament arc (I had a Yurameshi glam that was spot on when I played a midlander.)

Though playing Viper it feels like good ol' Marvel vs Capcom craziness and I'm all for it.

No, it's pretty normal considering the cutscene/gameplay ratio is way less skewed and it quickly presents a proper hook that makes you want to see what happens next.

Like, nobody was under the illusion Wuk wasn't going to just ace every single feat, so the core premise of the first half just wasn't interesting to me.

Yaana is awesome, Eutrope is waifu material and the little one is adorable.


But yes. It’s funny how much more interesting even a simple tournament story can be when Wuk Lamat isn’t in there and our character actually matters.

I may reach here and it’s just my opinion but I think what helps is that there is actually NO established character with us this time.

We had Alisa’s and Alphinaud, Cid and Nero and Themis and Lahabrea.
Mind you I didn’t hate those but it’s refreshing having our own personal story and reasons this time instead of just following the old cast.

The Miqo’te and the announcer are nice characters.
Yaana alone has more character growth already then Wuk Lamat in 30h.

I like how it doesn't start with long winded exposition dumps or character introductions and instead gets you into two fights almost immedietely, and then only after the second boss does it take a moment for characters to talk. Prior raids had more appealing premises but were hamstrung by slow pacing.
