Framerate slowly deteriorating

I have been standing around in dawntrail "town 2" for most of the day crafting to doing ventures. I locked frames to 60. over time, this eventually drops to around 45. if i reboot the game, rejoin the exact same instance, it jumps back up to 60. has happened in the past several days as well

is there a way to "reload UI" or clear some kind of cache in game, or do i need to reboot the game every time to fix it

or maybe this is a "memory leak" or something (whatever that really is IDK)

RTX 3080
i9 11700 KF
32 GB ram
SSD install nvme2

At what point does the issue occur?
How often does the issue occur?

Are you running any additional programs alongside Final Fantasy XIV?
Does the issue occur with one character or multiple characters?
When the issue happens, is the PC over heating at all?
Were any update or changes made to the PC around the time of the issue?
Does this issue occur if the game is run in full screen mode? Does it happen in borderless or windowed mode?

All steps taken to resolve the issue:

Could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.

What Platform are you using? (Steam/Windows/Mac/PS4 etc.) - Steam
At what point does the issue occur? - Usually after an hour+ of run time. Upon launching, I keep 60 FPS in high traffic areas. I have frames locked to 60 FPS
How often does the issue occur? - Always

Are you running any additional programs alongside Final Fantasy XIV? - Brave Browser, Steam, Discord
Does the issue occur with one character or multiple characters? - Only have one character
When the issue happens, is the PC over heating at all? - No, temps are 75C tops CPU and 60 tops GPU
Were any update or changes made to the PC around the time of the issue? - No, other than the Dawntrail expansion install
Does this issue occur if the game is run in full screen mode? Does it happen in borderless or windowed mode? - I play borderless window


system info appears to have PII on it and i dont want to share that. sorry

Have this problem too and only restarting fixes it.

Windows Version
Happens in cities
after a few hours / visitting dense areas like cities, especially Solution 9

1. FFXIV, Discord, iCUE, Opera GX
2. I have only one character
3. No overheating
4. No changes, only DT update.
5. No, only occurs after going into densely populated cities. GPU usage drops from the usual 90 - 100% usage down to 60%, and CPU becomes capped at 25% usage. specs below.

5900x Ryzen CPU
7900XTX 24GB
48GB 3200 MHZ
Playing from Gen4 NVME SSD
3440 x 1440

I am also experiencing this gradual framerate loss since Dawntrail.
As others have said, the issue arises from being in dense areas like cities such as Tuliyollal/Solution 9 for an extended period of time, usually a few hours (between 1-3). Restarting the game or logging out and back in resolves it.

I play on Steam version.

1. FFXIV, Discord, Google Chrome
2. I have only one character
3. No overheating, CPU is between 60~70C, GPU is between 45~60C
4. No changes to drivers made
5. I run in Borderless Window mode.

Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti
16GB RAM@3200 Mhz
Samsung EVO SSD
1920 x 1080 Resolution

Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Please try the following:
- Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card and sound drivers (if applicable).
- Please try adjusting/lowering the resolution.
- Please try running the game as an administrator.
- Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.
- Please be sure that Final Fantasy XIV is installed to the C: Drive. (If Steam version, make sure both the game and Steam are installed on same drive)
- Please be sure to disable or remove any overlays (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA etc.) as they may interfere with startup.
- Make sure that the Windows OS is fully updated.
- Verify installation files (Steam)
- Reinstall game (If steam version, try uninstalling and reinstalling both the game and Steam)
