    Immersive or Annoying?

Just a quick rant here from a relatively newish player:

I'm sure the vast majority of the player base finds the nighttime/raining/storm effects to be amazingly immersive, but they just annoy the hell out of me.

Seems like > 50% of the time that I login it's night and/or it's raining. When it's both night and raining, and I'm out in the field doing regular quests, I can't see a damned thing. I find it super un-immersive when it's a bright and sunny day IRL but the game world is deep night and stormy.

That's my rant. TY for reading.

There are times when I logon and I'm, "Raining, again, and it's nighttime? I can't see anything!" I mean I'm a terrible enough player to begin with, but when you handicap me with adverse weather conditions, then my questing is even more sad.

    Dim your room.

    Problem solved.

Have you tried adjusting your brightness and contrast settings? It should be possible to change your settings so things are visible even at night in the rain. I don't have the best eyesight but I do all right under those conditions.

As for the day/night cycle, there are approximately 3 real minutes per Eorzean hour so it's switching between the two every 36 minutes. It shouldn't be surprising if it's night when you log in but you don't have to wait that long for it to be day.

I'm glad the weather effects pop often and that they are relatively strong. Makes old locations look a little new. Weather effects happen so rarely in WoW and when they do it's hardly noticeable outside of the Shadowlands zones.

A full day cycle is only about an hour so it's not like you have to deal with it being night for very long. You could also go into your settings and bump up the gamma to make the image brighter. Most cities also have a sky watcher that tells you what weather is coming up in every zone so you can avoid certain weather if it bothers you that much.

Agreed! WoW weather is pathetic. FFXIV weather actually feels like weather.

Yeah, 50% is day and 50% is night because that's how days work when you don't have seasons.

"50% is day and 50% is night because that's how days work..." Now you tell me!

Reminds me of a cartoon I came across a few years ago regarding the classic clueless CEO. He's in a conference room filled with his subordinates with an outraged look on his face and angrily exclaims: "A billion is a thousand million! Why wasn't I informed of this?"

I could swear they made raining more frequent after they introduced automatic parasols, but I have literally no way to prove this.

But no, I do like the rain, but I get what you mean. Cloudy weather I feel is what tends to annoy me the most because the engine just can't seem to get it right. It looks very artificial.
