Admittedly its specific but I thought this xpac's Machinist job armour was excellent. Very Doc Savage / Allan Quatermain / Indiana Jones look.

The gear doesn't need to look like an aiming set, most gear doesnt look like it belongs to a specific job or role, since everyone wears tailcoats and robes. we are all a buncha mages on the outside. or just severely over dressed. i just finished looking at all the tome gear and all the raid gear, its all bad lol same styles we have had for ten years for the most part with maybe 1 exception, and maiming set looking like red cross healer outfit (due to the red and white colors, it looks like early whm theme, and the healing set matches the maiming set but has sleeves)
lets go have a gander at the bads shall we.
diadochos aiming set is kinda meh, not awful like the rest of the typical aiming gear.
rinascita ... not even worth describing how bad it is
classical is ok, if youre female character.
exarch is kinda uggo
neo ishgard is great, if youre female.
facet is just a reskin
all the tome and raid gear from hw for aiming is not hot
i kinda like the aiming set from omega savage raids , the rest of the raid/tome/crqafted gear from sb is uggo
edenmorn looks ok, but its the same crap we have in 50 different versions and continue to get more of
crystarium coat of aiming is good when dyed , the rest of the raid and tome gear from shb is garbs
do i really need to continue? ask around in game , most people will agree most aiming gear is not something they would use as a glam , but rather they would glam over it immediately with anything they have just so they dont have to look at it.
im currently using the pvp reskin of high allagan aiming set , and thats pretty much alll i have for aiming atm that looks decent on a male character
And this is why people say taste is subjective.
Parts of the Obsolete Android Aiming set have been my defacto Machinist set ever since the last Nier raid came out, I love it to bits and outside of some troian gear getting added to the look nothing has made me want to change up my MCH glam since.

The Panthean Aiming Set from 'Aglaia' looks decent:
(changed the bottoms and boots in this one)
And the Obsolete Android top mixes well with other items:

i suppose that technically does fall under raid gear, but i meant 8 man raid gear. the ones you trade 4 pieces in to obtain from the npc.
Nah ugly gear goes to AST Roe majority of sets I look like a lamp shade :PHi again, Dev team!
Please, for the love of all things precious, stop giving us ugly aiming gearsets for job gear and tome gear. Namely mch, but aiming in general too. We always get shafted for ugly gear. Even the crafted sets are always ugly for aiming. PLEASE STOP THIS and give us at least one really awesome outfit per expansion from either raids, crafted , or tomes. Thanks!
Sincerely, most of us ranged mains.

Dancer actually gets a fair few good pieces for dancer – I won't launch into the whole list, but Paglth'an, Ravel Keeper, Voidmoon/Exarchic are a few I can immediately think of where the vibe immediately suits dancer over the other two – but I think one part where it falls down is the assigning of accessories, especially in the sets where they only make one or two items and then mix and match them amongst the roles.
For example, the Palaka sets have a choice of either shoes or boots – the shoes would be wonderful for dancer, but instead they get the odd short boots that don't particularly fit the vibe of any of the three.
Again with the Zormor sets, dividing up the gear pieces used for Turali NPCs, there's an arbitrary division between sarouels and short skirts – again, the sqrouel would be suited for dancer but instead they get the skirt which isn't well suited to any of the three jobs.
There's also the Riversbreath (recycled Paglth'an) outfits where they have decided to replace the distinctly Amalj'aa-themed headpieces with other pre-existing pieces, and I think those are poorly chosen all around. Aiming gets a weird face-guard thing that doesn't really fit the vibe. It was also just a really missed opportunity to quickly modify the original headpieces and give us the pretty crown-thing without the Amalj'aa crest part on it.
I 100% agree. Aiming gets the ugliest set of the bunch more often than not, especially when it comes to 8-man raids, for some reason. We're also made to share with Fending sets quite often. Fending. Like, wut? Aiming is supposed to be agile. Why are we getting some of the heaviest-looking sets? When DNC got lumped with BRD and MCH, I was ecstatic as a BRD main since I was hoping this would mean aiming sets would get prettier and maybe slightly more feminine gear every now and then instead of the unisex sets we've been cursed with for years, but nope. No such luck :')
The Glamour Effect: That awkward moment when you realize you know FFXIV's gear pieces better than your own wardrobe X'D

Aiming is a fun one.
Bards have a flamboyant motif.
Dancer have varied dancing outfits.
Machinists have guns and more guns...
Yet in multiple cases they are sharing the tank armors but without a cloak!
All in all this issue could have been avoided by very simply DROPPING THE GLAMOUR RESTRICTIONS.
I really don't understand why they continue to give us stuff that we constantly complain about. They should probably jsut focus on making more variety and quantity of level 1 glams of decent quality design , kinda like some of the treasure map glams that are pretty kick ass, or crafted glams. We need a ton more of that stuff, and I'm pretty sure theres a large demand for more casual and modern looking outfits. Not to mention modern looking jewelery and accessories...
One of the things I always wanted in this game was necklaces/bracelets/watches/rings that have some bling to em. No I don't mean the the SCOB glowy ones, and not like the 81 dungeon accessories, but like ... a faint sparkle to them , that could come from the "new tech" they used on the faes crown weps and others. would look pretty fancy. Personally would like a chain and cross as glam for my necklace slot but since thats touching on religous stuff itll never make it into xiv, but they could easily just add like a Griever pendant (ff8) or something instead. getting a bit off topic so ill leave it at that , but yeah RIP RANGED cuz we get the least amount of decent looking stuff compared to other roles
