Dawntrail's auto advance cutscenes are NOT Dyslexia friendly, or player friendly

Emailed support to see if they knew how to switch this off and they pointed me here to complain.

I finally got to the level 91 quests yesterday and some of these cutscenes are a joke. "for all turali" cutscene 3 is a personal nightmare of text moving too fast for no reason and not being able to comprehend what is on my screen before its whisked to the next shot. I still only have a vague idea of what happened in that cutscene and I've gone back and rewatched it multiple times.

I looked gameplay of that quest up to make sure it wasn't just me with a problem and it was just a collection of people that looked away for two seconds and then were scrambling and confused because they missed half of it. Such a strange thing to force on players, especially when it's unvoiced.

Auto-advance is already a toggleable thing, and you CAN change the speed on that, and it recently got changed to have an extra option to enable it for Only voiced dialogue. because people Only wanted it for voiced dialogue.

I really do not understand why they've gone 10 steps back on accessibility for this :/

Some dialogue is definitely way too fast. I had trouble reading all of the overlay text at the end of this expansion and I wasn't the only one.
I've just decided to not bother reading everything in the text box they put up and to use the chat box text.
Is that ideal? I know it's not, but for now it's better than missing text because the window closes too fast.

By hitting space during a cutscene, you can switch auto-advancement off.
IDK how to do it with a controller though.

It’s not ideal, but isn’t all NPC dialogue from cutscenes also transcribed into the ‘event’ section of the chat log? I don’t think it’s possible to go through a cutscene then be completely locked out of something you missed, since you can just check the chat log for the bits you missed

Also, not to be ‘that guy’…but can’t you just turn it off?

I'm not talking about that option. If you turn that setting on you see two arrows in the corner, this doesn't appear in these cutscenes because that setting is off. I've never once turned it on because I have difficulties reading. I brought it up in the original post because it is so weird that this new auto-advance is in the game alongside that much better one. This is just something that cutscenes just do now that you cannot opt out of, and you Should be able to.

and respectfully I shouldn't have to miss half of a cutscene and read it in chat later because something you can't control plays it automatically at a speed you can't change, I might as well just read the whole thing on gamerescape at that point :/

No, there are un-pauseable cutscenes, they are talking about these.

Agree, they should stop doing that, especially as there is no indicator on when is this about to happen, I "pause" to get something to drink only to comeback and see the cutscene is over.

Hi, quick reader here. There's no reason for this many unvoiced cutscenes to advance so frequently without allowing the player proper time to read it. A lot of these moments would have been done in previous expansions with as much cinematic fanfare without ending the player's opportunity to read it at their own pace as the scene played out, but this expansion makes much heavier use of the event text than SHB and EW did (and those two packs mainly did it during Voiced scenes where it would be largely inconsequential.) A lot of the dialogue that I've seen isn't incredibly important and can of course be reviewed in the Event chat box, but it's out of sync and unpleasant to watch the action happen and only be allowed to actually read it properly once it ends. I read quickly, but I have attention issues and if something catches my eye there's a nonzero chance I might miss dialogue simply because it gets taken away too quickly. It has nothing to do with the auto-advance settings, it's automatic and scripted by the game, and I do not enjoy this feature.

I don't know what the devs were thinking after they've implemented so many accessibility features even recently, such as the ability to resize windows and text and some new marker settings not too long ago? I can't imagine what it would be like to try and parse these while actually dyslexic, but I suppose I'll find out when I go back to play the content with my dyslexic friends.

I agree, it started to be annoying during the ShB, increased in EW then again. The annoying part that it is inconsistent. There are press to continue games, there are “cinematic” ones. But ff14 is neither and just uses one or the other at a whim so you can never be sure. More so - for the “cinematic” type of cutscenes the industry standard for quite some time has been to allow a player to pause it. It is also not present in ff14. Look at ff12 for reference. There are unvoiced press to continue during the in-game world, there are cinematic ones with a pause - clean and simple.
