Hey everyone!
I'm at my wits end when it comes to this problem. This has been consistently happening for several months now. I had about enough of it. What happens, is that I launch the game from the game launcher by hitting Play, and the game starts up to a black canvas with the in-game cursor, and it stops responding. You just click about in the black void, until it just suddenly closes. Great. Before Dawntrail this was somewhat inconsistent, for example, after the first 'crash' it would usually work when I tried again the second time, however ... Now it just constantly stops responding. It would also stop responding upon exiting the game, it just won't close normally.
I own the game on steam and the ONLY work around at the moment, is if I forcibly close Steam before I hit the play button on the launcher after logging in. In the past there was a work around where editing a steam api dll in the game folder which would fix things, but ever since 6.4 something broke, and if you have it renamed you no longer able to launch the game from steam.
I had hoped that Dawntrail would fix this problem, but no luck, it just unfortunately made it worse. I have seen other threads dating back 2 years when it comes to this problem.
The list of workarounds only shortened since, and I dread the day where the only work around would be gone as well.
I tried messing around with the in-game settings, trying different resolutions, window modes. I tried green lighting the applications through everything. I tried to use the repair game files function, and even reinstalled the whole game from scratch. I dumped the setting files in the documents folder and tried without. I don't have any programs running at all that could interfere with anything. I don't have any kind of overlays enabled. If someone can help me with this, I would really appreciate that.
Considering this only seem to be happening because steam is involved in some way, I just don't know what to do about that.
