How Does This Game Have Good Graphics?

I just started playing this game and a lot of people say the graphics are really good, well when I look at them I think their ugly, even for 2010. Am I missing out on some settings or something?

Just as a precautionary question: Did you open the Final Fantasy XIV Config program (it's a separate program from the game itself) and adjust the graphics' settings in there?
