Could someone please whip out that youtube video about aesthetics vs graphics again. It really should just be a sticky.

That's kind of pointless for this game since the graphics themselves are pretty high up there (assuming you have the rig to run it), while the aesthetic itself is... just a rehash of XI.

I've never seen that video, but I guess aesthetics VS graphics is what I've always been thinking. IMO, even old 2D games à la FFVI looks good.
I've seen a lot of people say games like Guildwars 2 had good graphics and was superior to FFXIV because of all the 3D effects this game is using compared to FFXIV... It is true, but IMO, the character designs is ugly.

Compared to many other mmo's, FFXIV is one of the best looking mmo's out there.
But what makes an mmo a good game isnt just looks, so thats a lousy agrument.
Maybe you should find a single player game that dosent require so much stress as an online game does.
Or actually get a PC that can handle the game's graphical specs.
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...
I dunno why people are saying this. FF14 graphics aren't really that good. Characters and mob models are very detailed and nice looking, and their animations are good, but the rest of the graphics aren't really breathtaking.
Additionally, the game has very few areas where it can show off nice looking stuff. Half the game is small, cramped, claustrophobic corridors, and the open areas we have are mostly copypaste with pretty dull textures and almost no landmarks.

I can see threads on my woven clothes and the sheen on my armor looks appropriate to the lighting.
I think something is wrong with this game, can anyone confirm? I've never seen another MMO do that....
Peach Parfait/Khulan Angura on Gilgamesh

Yes yes, It is nice to have such a Graphic but do you know that Games aren't REAL ? therefore they shouldn't have graphics with a nice skeleton-model coz It resembles reality more than ugly models ! My argument wins over any others !

I find some of those corridors like the caves or what not are very beautiful. What about the glowing plants in some of the caves. So pretty!I dunno why people are saying this. Yeah, they're pretty, and then when you see the same plant again a few meters later it's also pretty. And then when you see it a few meters later again, and again, and again, you stop caring...
Anything becomes dull with repeated exposure, regardless of how amazing it is. So the copy-pasted landmasses of FFXIV present an issue in this regard, but the fact that they are so intricately designed, even on the umpteenth visit, there's always some new item to take account of, and marvel at. The level of detail is always still striking, to this day.
This is what's wrong with many other MMOs. On first glance it's interesting, on second glance it's already boring because there's no intricacy in the design. In FFXIV, although there are copy pasted segments of landmass, the original places have more longevity by virtue of the fact that they are so expertly crafted.
