To me it just looks like a glorified black bikini.
Since they announced no new swimwear this year this is the closest we'll ever get to one.
So instead of looking at it as battle gear just look at it as a weirdly implemented sub event gear or something.

Only the mage legs (if highly melded) are feasible to use in combat, the other 3 parts of the set are out-stat'd by other ("non-trashy") gear. So just get that instead.
I am a woman and i don't see this is objectifying our gender.

I absolutely love the realism that this game's armour provides, but I'd really like a set of that gear. We haven't gone the way of almost every other fantasy MMO and made More Skin = More Defense, but one set? It's a single set of gear. If you're going to use it as a foretelling of future armour, look at the changes Yoshi made to our current armour. The lowbie cotton shirt was actually changed to show less skin.

I'd say wait until every piece of new armour looks like three triangles of aluminium before hitting the panic button.

Yeah, FF has such a history of modest clothing . . . . Nifty fact, coliseum wear was pretty minimal in the real world. It wasn't really meant to protect, but show off. And real fighters fought nude, as doing such was a sign of superior prowess and bravery.

As it is, 2 or three outfits that show skin isn't an indication that things are rapidly becoming a skin flick. You are grossly blowing things out of proportion.

And the fact of the matter is, their stats reflect their attire - which is completely opposite of the common fantasy tropes.

The stats on these two sets are low. Which is completely different in comparsions to high level/stat gear from other games:

I love this thread; I love how people get bent about a game and gear in it. Like I said before OP if u dont like dont get it or be around people who like it. It would be like closing all Victoria Secret stores and adult stores just because you dont like lacy things. Wont happen in real life so your deluding your self that it would change in a game. There were bikini's and people were upset they couldnt get them again so this is his compromise. I wont miss you on server if you decide to quit over this I dont think most people will. Glad Im not the only one who thinks taking pics with out asking is rude as well. (gets the popcorn and watches)

As an aesthetically minded person, I don't find them lewd as much as I think they look dumb as hell, especially on PAPER THIN female models with NO BREASTS!!! Seriously, that top is trying to allude to cleavage that ISN'T EVEN THERE! What fetish are we pandering to here!? I think the top hood and the bottom stockings/boots and straps are pretty cool, but I can't say I'm feeling the stuff in between. I've never understood why that sort of "low rider" bikini string ever got popular. The trick to allure isn't about what you're showing. That's boring! It's about fabric and colors in all the right places, people!

Do I care that people are using the gear though? Nah.

I guess the main issue with this is

If you're making sexy clothes and armor by making the clothes and armor smaller, you're not really making sexy clothes. You're just increasing the visibility of the already sexy character models underneath.

It's uninventive and boring, mostly.
