This whole thread......
Interesting thoughts and points of view from all sides here. It also seems a lot of discussion on the 'morality' of the clothes. Perhaps it is important to keep a few things in mind:
Demeaning or not, is more psychological than physical (especially nowadays). If a girl puts on a 'skimpy' outfit for the purpose of trying to attract attention (i.e. the : Look at me! Look at me! I need attention!), then that is demeaning. If she puts it on because she likes it (and does not care what other people think) then that is not demeaning.
If a man forces her to put on the outfit, then that does become a demeaning act (but this is not possible here, so I'll not talk about that).
The reality is, it is up to women to decide if they want to put on that outfit, and for what reason. They have the right to choose. Therefore, the worst case scenario is that they would demean themselves. It is no longer, as the OP suggested, a situation where someone else is demeaning and objectifying women. Since they can not force the women to wear it.
Now if we want to take a step back and actually see it for what it's worth....
Did you know the olympics were originally held naked? No clothes at all?
Did you know that gladiators and spartans would go into battle wearing little to no clothes, ready to face death?
Did you know that mage's don't really need physical armour in order to call upon the majicks?
Do you know that girls in the mage outfit look more like belly-dancers than anything inappropriate?
Do you know that 'lewd'ness is a relative term applied to a situation based on ones own personal moral position. What one person/culture would say is lewd another would say is acceptable.
Please do not impose your moral and ethical beliefs onto others. Allow us to make our own choices.
The clothing items fit the era and theme of FFXIV.
Wearing it or not, is now a personal choice.
Thank you.
grow up.I am totally disgusted about this new gear. Why would you do such a thing SquareEnix?
Is this the direction that the game will be going in 2.0 - A Real Reborn? You're taking fanservice WAY too far.
Take a look for yourself:
How can this even protect you in battle? This is blatant objectifying of women in general and I am appalled at how Yoshi P. can even support this.
Please either change this to cover up more of then skin/remove it, or I won't be resubscribing for 2.0.

Just to play Devil's Advocate. We have laws against murder and theft, for example.
You might say, "Well, as long as you're not hurting anyone, then people shouldn't have morals imposed on them." But that in itself is a moral and ethical judgement. Your argument here is philosophically bankrupt and contradictory, because you are deciding for them it is unacceptable for them to impose their morals on people, itself a moral judgement.
Now, if we want to discuss the *degree* to which it's acceptable to impose moral and ethical beliefs on people, that's another matter entirely.
Mostly unrelated to the topic at hand, simply putting things on a more solid philosophical footing as it continues.
