Let me start by saying, I love the new CG trailer, it looked fantastic... very cool, Square-Enix is the best in the business at doing those, however; as I watched it, I kept waiting, and waiting and waiting... and then it was over. I found myself completely disappointed. Perhaps your marketing people don't get it, because I believe the developers do at this point... but this trailer is ALL WRONG, for what you are trying to do.
It comes off as expansion pack, not a relaunch. All these epic story pieces, pre rendered... and not one single piece of gameplay? What about the mention of all the things that have been fixed, revamped, corrected. I have just recently come back to the game. I AM YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE. The reason I came back? A friend of mine provided me with the roadmap to 2.0, and Yoshi's state of the game addresses. I read what he had to say and he seemed sincere, he was pushing all the right buttons. Things were already being fixed in the game and it was more streamlined and fun, this 2.0 was going to be the game we had all hoped for, that we wanted to love.
This trailer mentions none of this. If I hadn't been given information prior to the release of this trailer a few weeks ago, I would have watched this, sighed, and not given it another thought. You guys need to market this thing as a big apology, plus a big time we fixed it AND please come back and see that the 80 dollars you spent on that collectors addition nearly 2 years ago wasn't a massive waste of money. You want people who stayed far away from this game due to the word of mouth impressions, particularly about the prior administrations total disregard of beta testers feedback, to realize that so much of it has been fixed. This trailer, while very cool, purveys none of that. Your marketing department is off to the wrong start, this game looking cool and pretty was never the issue, it was the big rotten stinking worm in the middle of the delicious looking apple that ruined it.
I want to love the game, and it needs more people playing it to fully love it, get it right.
