Beastmaster concerns based on DT story (minor spoilers)

Am I the only one worried after playing through the msq that they're going to make beastmaster based off that one hunter we saw using beast souls?

For one, I find the entire 'slurp down souls like candy instead of letting them go back the aetherial sea' disgusting. I absolutely do not want a job based on doing that. And two, what's the point of it being a specialty limited job if it's just your standard abilities that are just 'themed' on beasts.

My preference for it would be, obviously, a pet based job. Have some abilities of your own, but the bulk of it is coming from the creature.

A far distant second choice would be fully morphing into the creature yourself. But if they were going to do that, I'd far prefer they just import 'monstrosity' system from ff11. Make it it's own big new side content for people to do for a change of pace.

What do you think? Is what we saw in the msq a sign of what's coming?

Considering how many Blue Mages there are, I wouldn't say barely played. Gimmick value alone goes a long way.

I dont want to give away the Viper quest, but it left me feeling it was a prelude to the Beastmaster class.

Expansion jobs can be unlocked prior to beating the expansion story. Viper can be unlocked at level 80 by players who haven't even finished the ShB base story yet. Blue Mage was introduced in Stormblood but could be unlocked by players as soon as they had beaten the Ultima Weapon. Beastmaster will almost certainly be able to be started by players before they reach the Regulator reveal, so it likely will not feature that lore.

Hey, BLU is probably the best job in the game. It's reward is getting to play it. It's janky but it has actual flavor.

Have 0 faith in Beastmaster though so I just have to wait and see what it is.

God I’ve always hated this ‘morphing’ thing (no thank you I would not like to be a freaking animal) but given Yoshi’s obsession with it I literally can’t see anything else happening for BST.

Hell Yoshi-P loves ‘morphing’ so much he literally made an entire Final Fantasy whose whole story is ‘morph into summons’.

So yeah, I now predict that ‘Beastmaster’ in FFXIV will be some absolute monstrosity that literally ‘absorbs and becomes’ the beasts, and not an actual master of beasts lol

This is what I assumed immediately after seeing that plus that one guy who couldn't fight in the arena. I'm assuming in the arena they were using beast souls to fight, but maybe not. Add in the fact that Wuk Lamat seemed to disapprove of their lifestyle, but then at the end lets them live as they always have?
