    Suspicious activity? [SOLVED]

Any one else get this message today? I hadnt logged into game for about 3 days, but ive been on these forums, mainly in the Wutai section. Obviously you sign in with your SE account on here so im wondering, was this site comprimised? Did anyone else get this message?

FWIW i dont bot. Actually i dodnt even know how its done or how it works. My only guess is that it may have something to do with these forums.

Is there a required amount of time in which you are FORCED to change your password?

When i logged into the game today everything was exactly how i left it. My character hadent moved, my inventory is fine. And i have all my Gil.

So...whats the deal here? Please let me know if you got this message as well, be it today, or in the past.

I've never been forced to change my password, but SE did introduce some security measures recently. They'll lock your account if it is being accessed from an abnormal location.

You didn't really say where you got this message...

Oh sorry. When i tried to log into the game today, it popped up where normally the PLAY button would appear. They told me to check the email i registered with the account, and when i did they had a link to reset the PW.

Once i changed it, everything was fine. I understand that for people who actually ARE suspicious, they wouldnt want to tell them what tipped them off. But if this was just SE trying to be protective, a better explination of WHAT and WHY would have been nice. I mean DID someone log into my account? Would be nice to have their IP or at least country.

The only FFXIV related sites i go to are this one, and my LS's site. So i would assume that since my LS has a totally unrelated sign in to this account, that something happened on this site.

I guess everyone browse their official site with caution.

I suppose if it keeps happenening(this is the first time) ill just get one of those SECKEYs they have.

Guess im off to spend the next 4 hours deep scanning my pc for adware and spyware. Sigh, i just wanted to go level, talk about motivational killer.

Security tokens are a must have. In this day and age it is way too easy to hack people's accounts.

Did you log in to the lodestone from a different computer? Like at work or something? If you've only accessed your account from your own computer with the same IP, then it is very possible that somebody else was trying to steal your account.

You're right, though.. they should give you at least some kind of indication as to why your account was locked.

OH WOW....you just solved my problem. The other day my internet went offline. I wasnt sure why. After i rebooted my modem, i realized my external IP is different(not sure why but apparently my ISP wanted to change it).

That HAS to be why. Thanks for saying that, i didnt even remember until you said something.

The only reason i knoy why my IP is different is i play Minecraft and run a server and when i tried connecting to my "old" IP it didnt work.

On that note, maybe ill just get one anyway(SECKEY).

    Yep, that's gotta be why.

Glad you figured it out! But I still highly recommend a security token!

Yeah, I got a security token. It's a pain in the neck, but the peace of mind is worth it. As was the Mog Satchel in XI. ^_^

Hi, I keep getting forced to change my password because of suspicious activity. I fequently play from both home & work, I don't mind changing my password often, but I'm wondering if doing it too much will cause me problems later like getting banned or something? and I really don't want to use a security token because I know I'll lose it or break it >__<

Here's a more detailed explanation on how the system works:

    http://support.na.square-enix.com/fa...aqtop&c=2&sc=0

There is no mention of an account becoming permanently locked due to a high volume of "suspicious activity" resets. You should always be able to reset your password, just as you have been.

Of course it would be better if that statement came from SE themselves. But I think it is implied.

-How to avoid the login restriction:
Using a Square Enix Security Token will prevent any login restrictions from being placed. Security Tokens are also an effective means of preventing your account from being compromised and we strongly recommend their usage. For more information on Square Enix Security Tokens, please refer to the following FAQ.

I want to purchase a Square Enix Security Token and use it to log into my Square Enix Account. What do I need to do?

A security token isn't that hard to keep handy.. and well worth the extra security + ability to log in from any computer without getting account-locked. Stick it on your key-chain and don't lose your keys.
